I have just purchased the Toyo Open Country MT LT265/75R16 tires. I am now in the market for new steel rims. I have it down to Cragar Soft 8 16X8 with 5 inch backspacing or the Pro Comp Series 98 16X8 with 4.25 backspacing. If I went with the Cragar rims would the backspacing be OK with the wider than stock tires LT245/75R16 (any rubbing)? Also would the tires stick out too much with the Pro Comp rims? Not sure which way to go?

It is a 2006 Jeep Rubicon.

if you have no lift then id go with the pro comps 4.25" backspace. they may be fine on your stock rims. any other mods?

Personally I'd go with the rims that had less backspacing. They shouldn't stick out the tires too far, but they should prevent the tires rubbing on your suspension components should you decide to go with bigger in future. I don't own a TJ but since they make use of the same front end (more or less) as XJs and ZJs I don't think you'd end up rubbing with 265/75's with either choice of rim, but I'd still go with less backspacing to be safe.

i've got that combo (265x75on16s) with 4.25" backspacing. come over and we can mount up my spare, then you can go from there if you'd like.

I am really concerned about the 5 inch back spacing and not the 4.25. I would like to keep the tires within the fender flares if possible. With the wider tire and the 4.25 back spacing they will stick outside and I know there would be no rubbing. That means new fender flares. Anybody have the LT265/75R16 with a wheel that has 5 inch back spacing on a TJ?

Who cares if they stick out a little? The wider your stance the more stable it will be on uneven terrain, rule of thumb: the higher you go- the wider you go.

31.6 x11.2, i am pretty sure you could use a 3.75inch bs with them not sticking out :P

3.75 back spacing without sticking out? How is that possible. One inch wider tire, so 1/2 inch on each side plus a change of back spacing from 5 inch to 3.75 which is 1 1/4 inch so total of 1 3/4 inch outwards. My tire are just inside the fender flares now.

i run a 32x11.50 tire on a CJ. Flares are less than a TJ. They fit great. i have 4.25bs.
i guess what i am saying is go take up on JackstandJohnny's offer. You will get a great grasp on the rims that will work
