Title: Winter Beater
Post by: heep-a-lop on October 13, 2011, 09:07:41 PM
okay well picked this up for the winter beater but its already going wrong...

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ
5.2 V8
shitty 249 t case thats shot...

the start well after the usual tune up and some other things, decided it needs some help in the suspension deptartment so today decided with in the nest month or so on a weekend iyt will be getting

Rubicon express 3.5 coils
bilstein shocks

emf short arms and joints
front and rear track bars
and some emf tre's in the front

and a set of 31 1050 tires at that time

also gonna throw a aem intake and flowmaster exhaust at it in the next month or so....

headers will come if they come up used...

well so much for a winter beater but when u drive a 350hp supercharged buick regal all summer nothing fits

pictures to come

so been doing some research slash thinking....

so far i got..

front rubicon d44 to replace that piece of ship d30... both cv's are toast in it and no need to throw money at a turd...

pickin up two 4.10 ring gears this week some time and gonna find a real d44 to throw in the rear....

got  the 242 sittin at the shop thinkin sometime this week....

and should be ordering the 31's as soon as the snow flys and most likely throwin them on before the lift gets done... should be interesting lol

front rubicon d44 to replace that piece of ship d35

Did I miss something? I was pretty sure the D35 was a rear axle...

I believe Ford used D35s as front axles

Its got skulls on it, and what look like "gentleman sausages" or perhaps bones.. I looked at those at modern one day with a friend and was joking about them. Drews opinion at the time was that there were better tires for the money. :) I cant speak from experience tho as ive never run them.

They are a little spendy compared to what else you could get but...skulls man, skulls!

How do you like the Bilsteins? I've been meaning to try a set for the TJ for a while now but no one has ever given me any good opinions on them.

i love the look of them and the handling and they sound irry if u get them spinning...

so i need so advice so far i got front lift consisting of ( same lift as erins mj) upper dajustables and fixed lowers

adjustable track bar

pickin up form johnny sometime this week

rear arms upper adjustable lower fixed

adjustable track bar

now when it scomes to springs i am stuck..

i dont wanna go above a 31" tire( trying to build a reliable some what fuel efficent trail rig)

now that being said i am stuck between 3.5 and 4.5 lift?

i wanna build a really flexy rig so i am leanin towards the 4.5

i had to notch my floor to get 4 low to engage, and it still doesn't always engage, but i think thats cause my 231 is just finnicky; it only goes in when jeeps running.  weird.

its nice with the CVs up front too. 4wd is sweeeeet

well u know its been awhile when this is in red at the top of your screen
"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.

Well this weekend the shop was empty at emf and i had some time to myself.. it started with my slippy trans...i removed that and my t case first...

guess that would be considered the point of no return for my trans...  so a quick rebuild this week and gonna throw it back together..

my used np242 unfourtunatley is pouched drained the oil and it was more silver shine then pink......but i have another one i picked up from apeman... gonna open it up and see if it needs a rebuild itself to...

well after getting the trans and t case out... the back of the engine was not looking to good leaks from oil pan, intake, and rear main... plus low oil pressure(most likely a pump) so i made the decision to also pull it...

well after the oil pan removal and valve covers and intake... some badness started to show its face....  looking down at my cam i find one lobe has a huge chunk slahs gash in it a few of my valves have evidence of leaks past(mainly on exhaust) so now begins the part influx...

so far plans are rebearing, re ring, re seal, replace oil pump, replace water pump, timing chain and cam and lifters, and go through the heads...

let the fun begin..... hopefully back up and running in the next few weeks..  maybe get the lift and steering done in the process...

decided gonna do a set of rad flo coilovers up front to help with all the eventual weight that will be up there....
