I am looking to get out for a run this coming Saturday as I was out of commission for today's run I would like to keep it fairly mild with a 31" minimum and mud terrains only please. I would love to run to quirk ridge one last time this year so please let me know if you are in. Thanks
-
I think you want to change your title to November 5th, not October 5th...
-
Man I got a trail in mind if your game, does your rango have a winch?

No winch yet but its on the list lol
-
hello I am in to go on Nov 5 just wanted to know what time you guys figure you would be back ????
-
I will shoot to be out of the trails and back at the store for 4 at the latest. The clocks go back this weekend so I want to shoot to be back by 3 just in case we run into problems. I really hate night wheeling

Ok I am IN is it real neccsary to have two hook on the back I dont but am working on getting some I have winch and place to pull from the front and do you know what trail Thanks Thomas

If the trail leader has specified that front and rear recovery points are required, then you will need a rear recovery point. If you show up without one, please don't be surprised if you are asked to go home. This is done for everyone's safety. Sketchy (or no) recovery points are a real danger when out on the trail.
You will probably find that very few trail leaders will allow you to participate without having recovery points both front and rear. Recovery points, MT tires, a full sized spare, and having a vehicle in good mechanical condition are pretty much the minimum requirements for most runs.

If you have a trailer hitch then all you have to do is drop by one of the 4x4 shops and pick up one of their hitch shackles that slides into your hitch with a D shackle. This time of the year is not a time to be going anywhere without the proper gear as it can get very cold quick out there and if we cant pull you out you are going to be leaving your rig out there. I am not going to risk getting stuck out there and spending the night because we have a rig that cant be pulled out.
I always travel this time of the year with an extra change of warm clothes, extra food and water and a sleeping bag. You seriously never know what is going to happen and how fast conditions can change. A good downpour or a few cms of snow can completely change the trail conditions and can easily make it much harder on the return trip.
I know this is long winded, but I am not going to let anything slide if I am leading this run as it really is for the safety of everyone involved.

I'll be a maybe for this run. I blew a brake line last weekend and have some air in the lines. Hopefully I can get it all out by this weekend.

Let me know if you need some help Colin. I can sit in the Jeep and pump the brake while you do the dirty work lol

Mild run to Quirk Ridge? I have never been there?
My 03 TJ has 31x10.50x15 Pro Comp. Xtreme A/T.
50% tread left. Two tow hooks front and two rear.
8000lb winch. 2" econo lift. Sway bar disconnects.
Would I have much trouble doing this run? If it's ok
I would like to tag along? But I gotta tell ya.........
my jeep sucks in mud. New tires and locker of some
sort on "wish list".
-
Quirk is actually a bit of a tricky one this time of year. I know that Jamal and Colin were out last weekend and things were starting to freeze. I would say this time of the year would be a risky time to be out with all terrains and no locker. I dont want to spend the day running winch line where a good set of MTs would have made it through. We are due for some snow on Friday which will vastly change the trail conditions. I would say it you can get some mud terrains by the weekend then sure but if not I would have to say its best to sit this one out. If it started to snow you could really be in a tough spot trying to get back.
-
I understand completely. Won't be getting new tires or locker.
I will sit this one out. McLean will still be there in the summer.
Thanks for letting me know. Have a great time on the run.
-
Thanks for understanding. I have seen many easy runs turn into an absolute nightmare very quickly. I have the 15K in repairs to prove it. You will thank yourself in the morning when you can still drive it to get coffee. Mine sat at the shop for 7 weeks after the last mishap.
Cheers

i have an xj with 4.5 inc lift an 33 s brand new wanted to take it out maybe this weekend but dont have a winch or locker what u think ??
-
I would say if they are 33s and mud terrains you should be okay. It's all about how you work the skinny pedal. Do you have proper front and rear tow points
-
i have 2 in front an a hich in back an the goodyear duratrac an there new getting put on tomorrow lol
-
WK2008 did u go out on the 101 ?? the frist one this year ??

Yes it was this year. Duratracs I'm sure will be great for this time of the year. I look forward to seeing you on Saturday

Any idea what trail John? I'm just curious. oh and I'm in
-
We were just talking about that.
It really depends on who shows up and what the conditions are like. We may have snow up there this weekend...

Yeah we can decide when we get out there but maybe we can run the one that you guys found.
-
There will be snow up there, and that trail we found..well lets hope the ice is really strong. I'm willing to try it regardless.
It is a really good idea to bring some axes, shovels, picks to break the ice.
-
I may be able to join you guys...we'll see how tomorrow shapes up.

That would be great if you can make it. Love the JK on 35s :)
-
Sorry guys, found a new hobby to enjoy for the winter at least (picked up a new ski doo 800 yesterday). Maybe I'll see you all again in the summer...
-
Sounds like a blast Jeff! We still have winter trails though out at Waiperous that are pretty fun if you get bored of that sled ;)
-
Maybe I missed it, I looked. What time are we meeting? at the store? fish east junction?
-
How abnout at the store for 9? Sunrise isn't until 8:30.
I like John's idea of doing Quirk Ridge. It's been a while since I've been up there, and this dusting of snow will probably add some interest factor to it. If we finish super-early, we can also run the North side of McLean Ridge.

How abnout ;D somewhere else since the store gates will be locked and parking on the road is not safe ;)

Sure. Ruin my fun by being all safe and mentioning reality and all.
How about we meet at the wide spot on McLean Trail just a little bit south of the store - the wide area after it goes to gravel.
On the plus side, I will get a GPS fic and VIN on the Cherokee out by Quirk Ridge if we can find it. I don't know where it is exactly, but I think that at least one person on the trip knows.
-
I like the idea of running quirk but I'm not exactly sure how to get there. I am really open to anything at this point so we can decide in the morning. I agree that 9 is a better meet time at the spot that Todd mentioned

I can get you to Quirk. ;)
Going that direction up Fisher West should be entertaining after this snow.
-
Sounds good to me. See u guys in the morning
-
oops....was given tickets to the stamps game after I posted....I'm out.
-
Have fun all :)

Awesome run today. It was a fairly cold start to the day but it warned up to a comfortable day in the sun. Nice run up to Quirk and back down Sylvester all in about 5 hours. I can say that the old Durango is a great wheeler and will be a great addition to the family. It's nice to run with the big rigs and keep up.

sorry had tranns problems did not want to slow u guys down
