Title: TJ Problem -- Transfer Case Shifter - Creaking/Thumping Noise
Post by: Kiwi on October 30, 2011, 10:22:42 AM
Guys,

I have the infamous thumping noise coming from under the floor when I take-off from stand-still.

The issue and solution is described fully at http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/have-transfer-case-shifter-rattle-here-fix-tsb-pics-574562/ (http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/have-transfer-case-shifter-rattle-here-fix-tsb-pics-574562/)

So what's the problem?

The dealer (Big 4) has apparently never heard of this issue and when they look up the part number 05014148-AA it indicates a different part!!

Any ideas on next steps to solve the transfer case linkage rattling/thumping?

Thanks, Kiwi.

I plan on going with this shifter cable, should solve any problem now and still work with a bodylift or bellyup skid.

ive repaired a similar issue with that kit. that tsb may not apply to your exact jeep. sometimes the problems blend into other years though. i looked up that part number and its description is "shaft". it should go for about 30-40$. order it in and see if it helps. when it comes to old tsb's for older vehicles its common that we dont see them since the jeep was new. in this case, the jeep is 13 years old. looksl ike the part would take a few days to arrive. were there any other issues that could cause the noise?
