Title: Hood latch locks
Post by: Spinalguy on November 22, 2011, 11:50:47 AM
i bought one a while ago. It sits inside the grill area and locks the lever down so it can not be opened.
Now, it has locked me out.
Key fits but will not turn to unlock. i also tried both spare keys to same result, it is not unlocking.
i did spray some WD40 to help, no luck.
The jeep is garage stored and has not seen any winter salt, so how do i get this unlocked.
i think i could get a hammer and try and break/bend the locking 'arm' out of the way. i don't care if i wreck it as i will just take it off once i get the hood open.
Any thoughts, ideas?

I had the same issue... Drill out the lock... Small bit, moving up to a bigger one.   saves hitting the grill with the hammer...

You ever find that you have too many keys? So the one you THINK is the right one is really the wrong one? Yep, wrong key. The RIGHT key works great
:embarrassed:

Have one on my jeep installed by previous owner. Got tired of fishing out another key to open the hood to check....oh....anything! The lock tab can be easily bent back out of the way with a finger. A prying device could be used if the finger is out of shape. Since I exercise at least one finger, it's not a problem...

^you must have strong fingers. This one is definitely not moved by my finger leverage 8). On another note, i think i will put a slice of duct tape over it to protect it from any elements.
