Title: Infinity stereo system :cringe:
Post by: WagoneerXJ on November 27, 2011, 01:35:56 PM
So my $500 97 Cherokee has no stereo sound. Factory head unit worked, but had no sound. I swapped in a Kenwod CD player and still get nothing. Did some googling and found most people try and bypass the Infinity Amplifier. I'm awful with wiring, so has anyone dealt with this before? what did you do?

did it on my 96... picked up 4 3m lengths of twisted speaker wire with a plastic sheath(was in the surplus and cheap so it got put in)... ran from deck to under rear drivers seat under carpet going through center console area( i took the top of my dash off and center console out whole front of dash.... rear seats out) pulled it through to spots i could see it... it wasnt overlly difficult just time consuming belive it took me about 4 to 5 hours...  if u run speaker wire be sure to label them some how i used diferent color electrical tape one wrap every foot just so i knew this one was front right and so on..  then at the back i drilled 4 holes and put rubber gromest and passed each one through a hole... easy way to troubleshoot latter if need be....  then u take the stock plugs figure out which one is which( its online jeepforum.com)  cut them back farc enough so if u have to rehook it all back up its easy to splice back into the plug... splice all your wires into new ones and  it should work now put the million little arse screws back everywhere

its easy but complicated if u know what i mean... i dont mind wiring its just really time consuming

My Infinity amp in my '00 XJ was shot from the get go too.  I used it as an excuse to drop in a whole new sound system......easier then trying to just tie in, IMO.
