Title: Tire Siping...who does it?
Post by: AstraX on November 30, 2011, 12:56:38 PM
So I called Kal-Tire because I remember someone saying that the Chinook location did it..they don't anymore.  Actually no Kal-Tire locations do anymore.  Does anyone know who has the tools to do it in town?

Try the fountain tire right by the Chinook kayla tire. Ask for Darryl.

Ouch...

So finally got in touch with someone at the Fountain Tire truck center in the SE.  They charge $40 per tire for siping, which isn't too bad, but their machine needs the tire to be unmounted...so for 4 tires it would work out to be almost $300...

I used an Ideal grooving iron to do mine, it was a breeze.

When i attempted to get my tires siped, they wouldnt unless the tires were brand new. I said frack it, and bought a tire groover with blades off ebay. Cut through the tires like butter and worked very well.

It is cheaper to buy your own siping tool even for one set of tires.

just talked to erin (403)935-3540

we can do it for 20 a tire or u can buy our spare

From ERINYeah I have one for sale. $100 for the groover, comes with #4 blades and then if he wants a different size blade/head we have #6, #8, #10. Blades are $13 per pack of 12 and heads are $10.

+ GST of course.

I will give the shop a call.

This is probably the only set of MT's I will ever do it to so I don't think it would be worthwhile buying a groover.  I would like to rotate in a more winter friendly tire for my wife's Jeep when these wear out and for myself I will be looking at separate summer and winter tires.

Thanks
