2000 Jeep TJ 2.5 l. I just replaced the motor (used one from wrecker) as the previous owner blew a head gasket and cylinder wall was trashed beyond repair. New motor is great and drives well.
Only issue is that most of the time after hitting the accelerator while parked or driving it will drop down to 200 or so rpms, almost stall and then come right back up.
I've been told to check for vacuum leaks. What's the best way to check for vacuum leaks?
What else might it be?

Can of brake clean or carb clean. Spray it at vacuum lines and if the idle changes then you probably have found your leak.

Leaky egr valve?

TPS?? When mine went on my TJ is would do weird things when trying to accelerate.

I would say it sounds like a TPS.

Funnel and hose works too to listen for the leak.

get it warmed up then spray the idle control valve with throttle body cleaner when its running , sometimes they get gummed up

Thanks for the responses. I'll be trying some of them tonight.
