OK so my question is for all the bigger jeeps
what are you all running for tie rod ends
actual tie rod ends
hiems
something else
reason i ask is because i came across some large tie rod ends and I'm wondering if i should use them instead of the hiems that i originally planned to use

im using big tie rod ends as my knuckles are from a ford F150 and they are working great
but since i need to move my tie rod up i either have to drill and ream the knuckles or just drill and use a heim (which is what I want to do)
the new joints that evolution is making might work for this, i haven't looked closely at them as im not doing this till spring earliest.

Chevy 1ton tres. Not getting g very good life from them. Thinking of getting emf tres.

No one here is running tires your size jeff. Of myself, Kevin, Joey, and eric, we all run heims in various configurations. Tire sizes are 38, 43, 42, and 44.
This is the wrong place to ask this question. Most guys here arent running anything more then a 35" tire with a few exceptions.

see our new tre's are more meant for bolt on application where u want to use xisting tapers.......... basically a heim with a grade 8 bolt through it is a tre without any taper....
we have 1 ton chev tre's that are a direct replacement....

i know the hiems seems to be the best best and i like the simple design but just what i have heard they arnt made for long turm use so does that mean every 60 months im replacing them ..
ill post a picture of the tie rod ends i got m y hands on
these ones average 250,000 km under tractor trailers that haul 60 - 80 thousand lbs
since i was able to get my hands on them it was just an idea to use them

i would like your thoughts as you do have lots of expierence with hiems
what i have heard and read is since the bolt holding the hiem isnt tappered like a tie rod end it allows it to move ever so little and over time wears out the knuckle
is that caused by me using a ball joint style instead of king pin with high steer arms
maybe the knuckle is a weak cast
just a few people not tightening there bolts down good

I don't think you're allowed to run hiems for steering on road, something about because there's no taper you cannot adjust it when you start to get play. Not sure how true that is, I just remember someone mentioning that during a conversation about steering.

okay i believe the highway safety act requires a tapered pin on your steering... but dont quote me on that...
i know heims are used in desert racing all the time..

and can really do them to what ever taper just need a week or so ( to get them nitrided)
