Title: Limit Straps
Post by: MOABICON on January 03, 2012, 09:58:17 PM
Anyone ever install limit straps on a 03 TJ, front.
How do you attach them to the shock tower on the
top and attach to what on the bottom. Thanks (-:

You fabricate mounts.

What kind of 2" lift do you have that requires straps?

If you are worried about it at 2" just leave the sway bar hooked up. You'll still have enough flex to get over the parking blocks at the mall.

Why limit straps? This summer at McLean I over extended my right front shock.
Then, it jammed. When the axle came back up, the shaft couldn't go back into
the cylinder. It bent the shaft, then pushed through the washer on the bottom
side of the shock tower, (one just below the bottom rubber), then continued up
through the hole in the shock tower, through the fender and then into the bottom
of my air box! Thought I would just try and prevent this from happening again.
Then, there is of course, the "kool factor" of having limit straps.  (-:

Okay....that begs the question "is your shock the right length for your lift?"

Yip, sounds like a short, inexpensive, white bodied shock stamped " hecho en Mexico" with some fancy name brand sticker on it.

Kool factor of limit of limit straps? Dunno about that.
More like cheap insurance when your shocks cost $800-$1500 per corner.

The shock that got bent was an origingal stock shock. I now have
two new front shocks from Zone Off Road. They are BDS shocks
for a 2" lift. Also, have a Zone HD stabilizer shock. All work well.

New shock intended for the lift height you have  = problem already solved. If you want to add limit straps for the cool factor, knock yourself out.

Now you're on to the new problem that Frenchy was talking about. Zone paints their shocks white, right?

Why does everybody think that if bds owns zone they are the same shocks? I highly doubt it... good way to kill a brand. Are Lambos made in a Chrysler factory? Doubt it. You bought cheap shocks so save up till they go on you as well and buy some good ones.

Rubicon Express is owned by 4wd hardware or something like that.  Don't know about Zone

all whitebody type shocks (the cheap line of any brand pretty much) are all made in the same factory, to the same specs etc.

so who cares what sticker you put on it?

BDS owns Zone.  Zone is a knockoff of BDS.

I love how butt hurt people get sometimes over the dumbest things. Who cares if BDS makes a good shock or not. They are cheap enouh to buy 5, keep one as a spare. If you ever break one use the lifetime warranty to replace it and youll never be out of service or out of pocket.  No I dont have BDS shocks, nor are they white. To the OP, for your size lift and amount of wheelin...go buy 5 of em and ditch the limit strap idea.

The question was how to mount them. Not where to get them.  ;D
