not only am i new to using computers I just got my first Jeeps.Thats why I.m newjeepguy i now think I should have called myself new2 jeep guy newjeepguy sounds like "oh yeah and my other cars a hummer and oh yeah and i gotta lexus i use to go to Bloomingdales in Beverly Hills when I,m outa bath bubbles. So I dont really have a new Jeep I,ve gotta 1987 wrangler built by a guy in Airdrie I cant take credit for building and a 1997 G cherokee. Now my problem is the front driveshaft broke at the c.v. joint.I,ts probably cause I extended the shaft by undoing the collar and simply lengthening it?It seemed like an easy fix as the cherokee has a lift of about 3-4 inches is my guess. Now i know I can spend huge money to get a custom shaft or is it ok to the extend an original again. I know the balance weight fell off the one I was using and there was a drive line vibration at 100. so is it because the balance weight came off or because its just not gonna work?

For that amount of lift you need to get a u-joint front drive shaft. You can either get a new one made by Pats Driveline or get them to shorten a shaft from a 4.0 ZJ, I got one from the pick n pull for $30. Got Pats to shorten it and rebuild it, all in it cost me ~$250 including the shaft.
You will need to change the flange on the diff so it will accept the new shaft or get the adapter from DSI. Running a CV driveshaft on a lifted ZJ isn't going to work above about 2".

x2^^ Trust Whiteout he just did his.
I've been through about 5 shafts playing with length. The cv shaft is no good for anything over a BB. Front shafts and flanges from some Dakotas work (along with the yoke) and some other ZJ's but the easiest way is having one made the right length for your application.

hey mike, the flange they are talking about is the one i picked up. you saw it last week in my garage!
the other option you have is to grab a ujoint shaft and swap the yoke on the D30. i bought the flange because i had a driveshaft thats length is compatible with the flange.
good luck with it!
