Title: Best Location To Mount 48 Inch Hi Lift
Post by: duncan-d on January 25, 2012, 07:20:20 PM
I have a stock 2006 Jeep Rubicon with a front bush/rock guard with a Warn winch. I recently purchased a 48 inch Hi Lift. I am looking for the best location to mount the Hi lift. Front bumper, rear bumper or on the front bush/rock guard (1 1/2 tubing). Please let me know your thoughts.

from what i have been told mounting that thing on the exterior of the truck is just pointless .. gets full of mud and doesnt work when you need it ..  i managed to fit mine in the back of the jeep and attached to both C pillars in the jeep   that way its out of the way and clean and dry and ready to be used

I mounted mine on my hood just infront of the hinges. Using to rubber bump stops from princess auto and an two bolts. Costs me a hole 6 bucks. Not even.

Mount it outside if you bought it for looks, mount it inside if you actually want to use it... which will be never to rarely.

Hi-Lift sells a neoprene booty for $35(at Princess Auto) that mounts around the ratcheting mechanism to keep the elements out, and a rubber collar can be purchased from Daystar to clamp around the rail and handle to prevent rattling. I've mounted my Hi-Lift on 4 different rigs (outside) spanning 18 years and it works just fine.

x3

Had my original 48" on the roof of my XJ in all weather with the boot and had no issues. Now have a bigger one and still no issues. The 48 is now on a TJ and still no issues. Had it over 6 years in the weather, and as long as you take care of it, as in lube the pins with anti sieze and keep the boot on, it should never give you grief.

I did what Rubi03Jef suggested and mounted mine across the back on the C pillars.  Works Great!  Also, if you are planning on doing any winter  it'll keep in nice and warm inside and you won't have to freeze trying to get it dismounted from whaterver exterior mount you have.

On your garage wall.

Thats where it'll end up. Mines about 9 years old and still looks brand new :-)
