Title: Torque converter woes
Post by: WagoneerXJ on March 27, 2012, 11:18:24 AM
Ok so I am installing a new 4.0L in an 89 XJ for a friend. It has an AW4 transmission. Took the old motor out, and did not touch the converter at all. Put the engine in, bellhousing bolts are all on, and motor mounts are bolted on as well.

My problem is that I'm trying to bolt the converter to the flexplate, and the bolts are even touching the converter. I think it slid back too far. How can I get it ahead?  It's hard to get at, as the only access I have to it is through the starter hole.....

Temporarily use longer flex plate to converter bolts to "walk" it back into position, then install the correct length bolts.
