I had a hiss when my CAT broke up and plugged the exhaust, this caused a back pressure which escaped by melting out the EGR. I was also very low on power and had horrible fuel economy.

it sounds like it's coming from the engine somewhere and it only does it at higher rpm. i dont feel any sort of power loss either.

I had a similar noise coming from my TJ a few years back and it turned out to be the belt tensioner. I remember letting off the gas and putting it in neteral and the noise was still there till it would fade away. It was kind of like a haunting howling noise that only came around when i was doing 110 km on the speedo.

it does sound like it could be coming from the tensioner. did you have to replace it or did you just pack it with grease?
