Is anyone up for a run Saturday or Sunday
-
I'm in.
-
Nice. I'm thinking Saturday early start at Smitty's and hopefully we can get a nice run to the falls or something. I am up for pretty much anything so.
-
IM iN!!!! let me know on txt 6121893
-
If you've got room for a first timer I'd like to join in. Will have to see if I can get a radio to use.
-
Always room for sure. I am not super familiar with the trails out there so we will have to look at the maps before we head out.
-
What time at Smitty's? I'm gonna go early and grab breakfast... sounds like Pook is coming too.
-
I am thinking 8:30 for breakfast and head out at 9 or 9:30 from Smitty's
-
where are you going? Im in the same boat as smudgeone. the new boat.
-

From what I'm guessing is the meet is at the Smitty's along the main drag in Cochrane then heading out to Waiparous. Not too far anyways.
-
i've never been out on a trail ride before... what kind of timeline would it be? bright and early for breakfast, head out..... how long does the trail take? just curious.
-
last time when i went out we met at 9/930 and where there at 10 20 or so, went to the fall and back we was done by 330/4
-
Yeah we really have to pick a trail. I'm not sure what is open and I would like to do something a first timer can easily run. Any suggestions?
-
Looks like I will be in for this run. I should have the new MTZ's on the JK. 8)
-
So how many winches and CBs do we have. I have a CB with no winch
-
The falls is really the only trail open. I would recommend more than one winch... It will probably be icy on some hills.
-
I was out on saturday rzring then sunday dirt biking shoudnt have any problem unless your going with bald tires ;)
-
Hey. Sorry. I have to back out of this weekend. Totally forgot I had prior commitments
Maybe for the best. Im getting a cb to install next week hopefully from Stan when they come in. Fingers crossed. Lol.
-
I have a CB and winch... Just need to replace my lost antenna on Friday. :-[
-
I got a cb as well
-
I think I'll come out too on Saturday - winch and CB.

Good stuff Darren. Haven't wheeled with you in a while
-
Nice I am in at day are we going to be going
-
Nice I am in at day are we going to be going
We will decide that morning but likely the falls as Kevin mentioned that this is likely the only trail open
-
So far it looks like its going to be pretty wet, betting those winches will come in handy.
I'm having issues finding a co-pilot and so far I haven't had a solid response from some used CB sellers. Its starting to look like I won't be prepared to come along. Its only a maybe for me showing up.
-
Just a heads up that a winch and CB are not mandatory just recommended.
-
why don't you edit your first post and actually put the requirements up. just to clarify? ;)

its an open run, so really if you want to be picky about what u have to have to come then it shouldnt be an open run lol.
im pushing to get my friend to get his yota on 31s to come he has no lift.
whats the point of a trail run if no has gets stuck thats the fun part
-
I am new to Jeeping...want to get out. Where and when do we meet?

Even though it's an open run, there should be minimum requirements so that we're not wasting our entire day pulling people out that weren't properly prepared. I'm sure nobody coming along wants to spend 4 hours getting up one hill because someone showed up with bald tires and no tow points. There's gonna be lots of snow, mud and water out there. I don't want to be spending MY day pulling winch cable to get people out that didn't come prepared for Spring-weather-wheeling. I've seen some very capable stock rigs out there (even on 31's) but we have to make sure the safety factor is in there and make sure we have enough experienced wheelers on the trail with the proper gear to get through the day. That's all Pook's saying...
-

We meet at the Smitty's in Cochrane... a few of us are going early to have breakfast, you're more than welcome to join us. We will be there around 8-8:15am.
-
I have a stock 2012 Rubicon unlimitied...no winch, no CB yet. Is this Saturday a good jeep run to break my unit in on, or is it advanced?
-
You will be fine with Rubi and good attitude. If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask!

It will be a walk in the park for you.
I camped in Waiparous from Saturday to Monday. I drove my 93Ford Ranger(itty-bitty 4" lift and 31" all-terrains), and my friend brought his stock 03 Jeep Liberty on street tires. Fully loaded with passengers and camping gear and no airing down of tires. Drove to the Falls AND Margaret Lake with no fanfare and I did most of it in 2WD for craps & giggles. Not much for snow as in previous months and even ran into 2 stock Nissan Exterra's and a Honda CRV. I'm 100% positive that your stock Rubicon will have little problem this weekend.
-
Sounds Great!!
-
By the looks of thing it is going to be a great run. Hope for so good old mud and so fun.
-
Tow hooks front and rear, full spare tire, good rubber, a RECOVERY strap (not a tow rope, I'm going to get one from princess auto), and a good Horn by the sounds of it :) seem to be the big deal so far. Both the lead and the rear vehicle will need radios so no one is left behind. There is going to be at least the remains of this precipitation around for Saturday but knowing a lady's Jeep can make it, should be a breeze ;)
From what I've been reading, a stock Rubicon is very capable. Its got lockers (big deal with the slippery bits), e-sway bar disconnect to keep wheels on the ground and decent rubber (32" stock). Rubicons also have about an extra inch of ground clearance plus some under/side armor.
I'm in the same situation as you Spike, albeit a shorter wheelbase.
-
I would say this. It looks like there is a lot of interest for this one and as long as you have a good set of tires and no junky vehicles when you show up you are good in my books. Front and rear tow hooks are a must so we can at least pull you out. If you have tow straps and recovery gear thats great, if not, use mine. You will get that stuff in time. Also, as this is an open run, as long as you have a good 4x4 you are welcome to come out. Heck, it might be nice to have a one ton to use as an anchor if needed lol
See you all at Smittys for breakfast @ 8:30 and pull out at 9:30

Just for some of you know this is my jeep http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/bigmoe/IMG_0227.jpg?t=1318302205
I have a 10000lb winch, a 3inch by 30 feet recovery strap 6.5 tonn shackles 10000 lbs front tow hooks and stock back hook. also i will have no probem pulling any one out :D
got stuck 3 times last run but that was mostly in snow lol
-
a RECOVERY strap (not a tow rope, I'm going to get one from princess auto)
Hey Smudgeone, a word of advice don't bother with the princess auto recovery straps, they really are not a good strap, spend the extra cash and go to Moden or National and get an actual recovery rated strap. You dont want to cheep out on one of the most important pieces in your recovery bag.
Pook
-
Modern has very reasonably priced ones.

Quote for emphasis.
I'd been using the bone-jarring Erickson recovery straps from Princess Auto until the first time I used an ARB recovery strap - night and day. A true snatch strap (like the ARB) actually stretches and stores energy, then applies that energy to the recovery...a gentler, but more powerful extraction than the Erickson straps. I now consider my Erickson straps to be more like tow straps, or perhaps winch extensions than snatch straps.
The Erickson straps get the job done, but can really rattle your teeth in the process. :'(

True story ::) :-[
-
I can vouch for the ARB straps. Very much a night and day difference. MUCH softer for both ends i have been on with the strap.
-
30cm of new snow so far at my place near Cochrane and still falling. Be prepared for some slick conditions and deep snow.

Seriously, wrench all night like some of us do, or have a jeep ready to go before you post your run....or bail..theres other people who know the area that are going in that group...i would be embarrassed going on a run with 6 jeeps, and the lead guy shows up in his f150...this is a jeep site, i dont even want to know what you were thinking.
Next time be ready with a jeep product or im deleting the post.
-

-
I'm still going, Pook is going.. But I agree... Don't post up a Jeep open run if you aren't bringing a Jeep.
-
sounds good ill be alone lol
-
Hmm. I seem to remember going on one of CJA's very first runs. If I remember correctly Jay lead the run in a.....RAMCHAGER! Because his jeep was broke.
At least it was a Chrysler product. ;)
Call it an AMC run(All Makes Combined).
-
Not that I would want a broken ramcharger strapped to the back of my jeep :) ... But I think it was at least built for the bush.
Factory f150 with crappy tires, not so much. Leading a Jeep run, uhmmmm , no.
No offense John but we seem to have a lot of new folks interested in this run, looks like it's still a go and should be a nice day in the woods. If you can't get the old Jeep going, hop in with someone else or bail or something.
Ps. Isn't there a ford forum with an Alberta chapter?
I don't think there is a Calgary ramcharger association :P
-
im logging in alone tomm if any one wants to tag along
-
ill tag along...with the new vehicle, seeing how as we sold the jeep a while ago. ill be in a 04 tacoma ;D

Just for the record....I had alot of fun! Thanks for all the tips. ;D
-
Thanks for making my first time out so fun. Sucks we were cut short by a 4 foot slush pool, but such is spring.
-
a 4 foot slush pool
4 feet across, or 4 feet deep? :P
-
4 feet across, or 4 feet deep? :P
6 feet across (the full width of the trail) and 4 feet deep... Pook's lifted XJ was up to the bottom of the windows in slush and snow, he could barely get the door open to get out.
