Title: stupid TJ seatbelts
Post by: rossb on May 03, 2006, 08:59:30 PM
The seatbelts on my TJ are always getting caught in the door when you close it.  The spring that retracts them seems not powerful enough  to fully retract them and then the door closes on them.  A couple of times I have left the jeep with the door wide open.  It has done it since almost new...

I was wondering if this is a common thing ... and if there is some sort of work around...maybe aftermarket seatbelts...

any ideas?

For me, checking that the seatbelt doesnt get slammed is part of my vehicle egress checklist.

Spectacles
Te.ticles
Wallet
Watch
Keys
Seatbelt
Lock
Slam door

But I have been thinking of some sort of guard or something, I have ripped a few pairs of pants by jamming my arse against the lock bracket when I'm getting in the jeep. At least on TJ's the pin is a bent one, I remember a serious scrape/bruise from the old skool giant bolt/pin on my old YJ.

Its a very common complaint on TJ's.  If yours is just starting to do this, you can spray some silicone lube very liberally on a rag.  Pull out your seatbelt and wipe it down well.  This helps.  However it will get worse.  I wonder if there is any good swap to put a different seatbelt in there.
