Title: Need a plumber
Post by: NUXJR on May 28, 2012, 05:45:03 PM
Friend of mine is having issues with hotwater tank.  About a 5 minute shower then water starts getting cold.  It's a huge hotwater tank that also feeds slab heat.  Any help will be appropriately appreciated!!  Thanks!

If you want a plumber, call a plumber...

Sounds like its time for a new hot water tank...

Sounds like the dip tube is broken off inside the tank and only drawing water from the very top. I'm pretty sure the tube is available separatelyand not that hard to change.

Don't bother calling him this week. He's in Cuba.

Yeah I'm sure it's the diptube too.  Trouble is looking like finding one for this particular tank.  There's only about 3 feet above tank for clearance and tube is likely close to 5 feet long...are they flexible?  Also gunna take some soldering too.  Prolly best to have a plumber dude come see what they can do ::).

How old is the tank?  Our was about 6 years old or so when the tank started to leak.  Made the floor wet, you'd think they'd grade the tank toward the drain in a straight line from the tank to the drain ours kinda grades through the rest of the basement first.  You may be able to fix the tube but if it's aging, who knows if it's going to start leaking next year.
