Title: grand cherokee - no 4wd, loud noises

so i took my wj out for the first time since i bought it 3 weeks ago. we wheeled it pretty hard today, and it started making a bit of a grinding noise. then by the end of the day i had lost 4wd and there was a loud clunking kind of sound from the front end. could this be the cv on the axle shaft? it drives pretty much the same other than all the noise it makes.

thats a good start.
if they're still good then pull the front diff cover, check to see if you grenaded the diff or not. always possible, but CVs are more likely
