Title: Thought I was gonna die
Post by: vantagetes on August 12, 2012, 11:14:24 PM
Happened to be outside when this started. I could hear the noise and was like...who is beating garbage cans with a baseball bat? Then one of these almost took my head off!

It was golf ball size here in royal oak. For once I actually parked in my garage, but the baseball size holes in my siding are testament to what could have happened to the jeep.

Vinyl siding vs. sheet metal.  Only a slight difference

As for the "made in China" debate, that is a whole other can of worms.

Chinese made building products. No comparision, just google chinese drywall and your worst nightmare as a homeowner come true. Most vinyl siding  is made locally in Alberta.

Chinese companies are fully capable of producing materials and products that are up to spec with anything made in North America. Junk gets made because companies are under pressure from their customers to drive the price of products down. There are Chinese companies whose entire business structure is predicated on ripping off existing products and selling it at a cut rate. This happens with tools, building materials, car and even 4x4 products.

With proper quality controls and standards, the quality of materials coming out of China can meet North American standards no problem.

It's OUR wants and needs that make junk happen. Not Chinas fault if they build garbage when we ask for it. People complain about the price of drywall, so someone makes it cheaper, then people complain its not as good as the good schtuff.  Don't matter where its made, just knowone here will make a 100 buck bumper, in China... They will.
