meet at smittys in chochrane for 830-9am, leave by 930-10am. figure we could do lost knife to meadow creek to the falls/lake. good full day.
not sure if that bridge was repaired so thats why im suggesting lost knife to meadow creek. if the bridge is good we can go straight to meadow creek from the gravel pit. either way will be fun.
31" tires in good shape minimum,
airing down would be good too, someone will have an air pump to fill up after.
full size spare
tow points front and rear
food and stuff for the day
dress for the weather
good attitude
family friendly
no booze no drugs
please post up if you will attend before the evening of saturday september 1st. if you're not sure where to go or meet or need directions please ask and we will show you the way.
Eric

i'm in amigo
-
If I'm in town count me in too Eric.
-
Hey guys, the damaged bridge is not yet fixed so start south on Lost Knife. You will get to try a new bridge though ;-)
-
After talking with some folks, looks like this will be a CJA sanctioned Open Run. Modified Erics post. Hope to see alot of turnout, the long weekend is hit or miss.
-
Yeah! Go CJA! Ok, so lost knife to meadow creek to falls/lake. Long day. Anyone in for a good day wheeling post up. Let's try to get to smittys before 9am.
-
I should be in for this one
-
Really lost knife we can drive a car on that trail.

Really lost knife we can drive a car on that trail.
that sounds like a challenge........
-
I would drive my neon down that trail
Even the hummer club uses that trail so it has to be car friendly
-
That trail has the famous area 51 mud hole.
-
Well it's a good way to start the trail for a variety of different drivers. Any other options out there? I don't know waiperous as good as others.

You really have no choice. The only other place you are allowed to go in the summer is Margaret Lake. It is pretty sad. You can drive all the trails and be back by lunch.

I think that your plan is spot-on, Eric. It'll work quite well for newer folks in rigs that don't have a pile of mods. For folks that have a bunch of experience and modified rigs....is there anything wrong with "giving back" a little bit and participating in a run where new folks get to experience the sport every now and then?
It may not be everyone's thing, but every now and then it's nice to have a change of pace.
-
When I was a member of Cja. I lead like 3 or 4 stocker runs
Doesn't bother me none to drive the entire trail in 2wd
If my oil pump didn't poop the bed the. I would be out IN the trails as well test and tuning my coil overs at 90km a hour :)

Bring the Neon ;D
-
Good choice Eric. Little bit of everything but nothing that a stocker could not do. Did anyone mention scenic and family friendly.
-
I've driven this trail with my stock dodge so it is passable for stockers. And has good variety. The point is to get out, wheel and enjoy the day. So everyone is welcome.
-
Smittys at 8:30 this Saturday with munchys for the day.... Correct? This will be my first run with the CJA but my wife and I are in.

You'll have a long wait....the runs Sunday ;D ;D
Oh yeah, welcome to the forum 8)
-
Yess Sunday. I totaly ment that........see every one on SUNDAY.
-
I'll be there at 8:00 to feed my gut if anybody wants to join me.
-
8 is early for a sunday but if I can get the caffeine IV drip going and drag my wife out of bed it sounds like a plan.
-
Yeah, little early I know, but to get the full trail we need the bulk of the day. I don't like rushing things either. If everything goes smoothly then be back in cochrane way before dark.

clarify heeps.
leave Smitty's at 9. meet at gravel pit? or the trail head? jeeze get organized!
its all good also, if you need to leave early, to not goto the falls and lake............... there will likely be a group leaving early at sometime if others dont' wanna go.
however, someone will have to hang with Jeff when his NEON breaks down ;)
-
Leave smittys around 9, meet at lost knife trail head. If you don't know lost knife trail head then meet at smittys. Lost knife trail head is a few kms before gravel pit on trunk road, so you'll see a bunch of jeeps on left hand side:)
-

That neon of mine will never leave me stranded
Ya right. It's died 4 times and i keep bringing it back. Till 2 months ago I sent it to the scrap and got 5 times what I paid for it
So I guess I have to get my jeep goin by Sunday
-
we always knew Neons were better investments than jeeps............... doubt we'd get 5x what we paid for our jeeps thats for sure lol.
-
I re-read this and the meeting time at smittys is all over the place. Let's shoot to be leaving smittys before 930am. Kind of a happy medium.
-
i a hopeing to be able to make this on sunday
-
Sounds like FUN!
-
I'm in. Will be at Smitty's at 8:30a.m.
Don't know the area at all. ;D
-
Don't know the area at all. ;D
Bring a good camera as it is a gorgeous area.
-
I am in!
-
also, what CB channel will we be on?
-
I should be able to make it as well.
-
The wife and I will be there. It should be a good run to 'break in' the fresh Samurai. Some of you may remember we were on an open ride a couple of years ago with our very, very tired Sammy. Since then it's been sitting in the garage unplated, getting lots of new mods:
-1.6 engine from a Tracker (don't laugh - stock was 1.3)
-tuned sportbike carburetors on custom intake manifold
-new clutch
-onboard air
-redneck engineered lift using coils from an old Civic
-anti-wrap bar on rear axle
-new shocks
-front brakes from a Tracker
-master cylinder from a Subaru
-lunchbox lockers front and rear
-OTT steering from an old Mercedes
...and probably a lot more I can't remember right now. It's been a long time since this truck has been to the trail! This should be a good run to bring us back into the fold.
-
Should we bring FRS radios? No CB here.
-
i think the norm for the CJA is channel 10. Bring FRS if you like but im not sure how many others will have. if you dont have a CB dont worry too much. its an obvious trail and keep on eye on whos in front and behind you.
-
If I can get it together, I might just try making this run. I'm a complete newbie so you guys can tell me if my rig is worthy before we leave Cochrane.
At the very least, it's a nice drive from Okotoks to Cochrane.

All right. So everything looks good to go. Leaving smittys in chocrane by 930. Lost knife to the falls. Dress for the weather. Bring food and drinks. Should be a great day:)
-
This is a cja sanctioned run. So expect inspection, and a speech. Preferrably by Heeps or Johnny, apparently I'm an assholre before noon. Be prepared and have a good attitude no matter what.
-
Would love to join but I was already scheduled to hike in Canmore... I know... WAlKING up a MOUNTAIN, so unjeeper like. I may try and say hi at Smittys in the morning though.
-
Awesome day out today, met a lot of new people. Put faces to a few forum members.
Baja'd a bit (ok, more than a bit :o), and the old heep still made it out under it's own power.
Or was that "get the redneck out"? ;D
Too bad about the Sammy's opverheating issues, that was a Badass rig.
Thanks for organizing a fantastic day.
Vince
-
thanks for the run .i had a great time
-
Lotta fun today thanks to all that came out :). Sometimes ya just gotta get your redneck on ;) and race side by sides..... And win. Baja'n is fun. I think we were going faster on those trails than we were on the road on the way to WaipArous. Stupid slow ford escapes!
-
Good day for sure. Didn't break anything keeping up to you yahoo's either so that's a bonus too.
Johnny I will try and remember to get that video for you tomorrow.
-
Thanks for the run guys. The wife and I had a blast. Two notes from yesterday......skid plate worked great (just a few scratches)............white on black seamed like a great idea (in hind site not so much)
-
Stupid slow ford escapes!
That's not nice calling Eric's XJ a Ford Escape... :P
-

Hmmm... it was the XJ up front...
-
That Escape was my Sammy's best friend. I could travel comfortably at 20 under the speed limit and it wasn't ME who was holding everyone up! (at least at that point)
Thanks for the help with the Sammy, and again, sorry to hold everyone up! I haven't yet found the source of the overheating, but I did finally manage to fix this:

it may be my zombie escape machine but its no ford escape!
i was clearly much faster then the escape too;)
i hope everyone had fun, was a good day. would have been great to get to the falls but that trail is currently closed for a month while zombie fish spawn... ::)
it was a great turn out as well. good group and everyone seemed to have fun. our suzuki samurai friend did well minus the heating and ignition issues.
a good variety or people from all over. a brand new jeep got its first mud bath and a few poeple new to wheeling got their first taste of dirt. the weather was great too. a couple more months of wheeling before the snow flys so i hope everyone gets out more too.
ill be going over pics and vids my co-driver (Kelly) took. if you would like any of these please pm me your name, email address and vehicle you were in.
thanks again to everyone that joined! do this again soon.
-
DOH... I need to get here more often. All I need is one more run to become a member....
-
A quick follow-up on the Samurai:
Cool as a cucumber! I pulled the rad this morning, backflushed it with a garden hose, then refilled everything with the truck up on ramps to put the rad cap at the highest point. I can't say for sure which one fixed the problem (probably the rad cap height, as a few people theorized), but we spent the afternoon at McLean with no temp spikes! A few glitches still to work out, but nothing that prevented an afternoon of fun.
-
glad to hear all is well with the Zuki :)
-
Thanks to the CJA members for taking the time
to come out and lead everyone up and back. ;D
