I need to replace catalytic converter in 97TJ SE 2.5L, and I was checking prices in Calgary... they want about $450 for everything.
Does anyone know where I can do it for cheaper with aftermarket parts.
-
If im not mistaken you could just get it hollowed out or a pipe welded in its place for cheaper. Unless you want to keep your cat.
-
The the stupid cat out and put in a resonator. As long as your O2 sensors are before the cat, no problems, which i believe they are before

I just had the cat taken out of my 97 TJ at Calgary Muffler, cost $100.
Runs better than ever. 8)

I have the same TJ but mine is a 4.0 ltr. My oxygen sensor is after the converter and I wonder if I remove the converter will it ruin the settings for the computer through the oxygen settings. I have sent a email to chrysler and will let you know the reply.

It will run like ABSOLUTE CRAP!!! You can only remove your cat if the O2 sensor is in front of the cat.

Actually the TJ has an O2 sensor before and after, the one after does not change any of your air idle settings, you can remove the cat but they have to put the O2 sensor back in. That was why mine cost $100 not $70

The catalitic converter is covered by Jeep up until the 130.000 km or 5 years - whitchever first.
I found a guy in NE that will instal the after-market replacement - all for $260 - 300 CAD.

I don't know about you, but I like to breath clean air. Vehicle exhaust is nasty enough!

Well I did it I had a straight length of pip put in the place of my hatched converter on my 4.0 TJ. As the oxygen sensor is in the middle of the converter you have to have a plug put in the pipe to accept your oxygen sensor which must be in the system. Thought you would like to know
