Title: 4.0L Interchangeability Question
Post by: BlackYJ on October 03, 2012, 07:41:52 PM
So would there be any issues in swapping a 4.0L from a 90 XJ to replace the 4.0L in my 95 YJ, both are mated to a 5 speed transmission.  The engine from the XJ is a reman and is in much better condition

90 4l is renix. Wont work Scott. Rule of thumb. You can go from an obdII motor to an obdI but not vice versa.

Yup. About the only thing you can swap is the block, the head will have to be swapped for a non remix head. A lot of work, why not buy a newer style 4.0,say 97-99?

Damn, that sucks.  It is a great engine

I can't just bolt up the intake and exhaust manifolds or does the OBDI have more sensors or something that makes it not possible?

Remix has a different head design, and the throttle body is different.
