Title: Fathers Day run
Post by: TJ54 on May 15, 2006, 04:05:49 PM
Now that we are past Mothers day, I can post this one.

June 18 -- Sunday -- Fathers Day Family Fun Goofy Hat Run

It is exactly what it says. Open run with a family attitude. Bring your wives, children, dads, anyone in your family, Wear a Goofy hat, bring your super soaker, frisbees etc.

It will be an easy day, A short easy trail to be decided, but probably "Top of the world" at Maclean, It will be at Maclean as it will avoid the long drive to Waiparous for the little ones. But maybe the trail will change.

The usual CJA trail rules. No Tire size limits, Tires must have at least 50% tread on them, The most important rule will be front and rear tow points. Stockers and newbies welcome.
If you have ever wanted to take your jeep off road but was nervous about it, This is the one to come along on.

A little later start.  10 am at the Maclean Store.

It is an official run, waivers for non-members

Title: Fathers Day Run questions???
Post by: Coolhand Luke on May 19, 2006, 11:09:09 AM
This sounds like a good one for me and my wife. We have never gone to MacClean, have been going to Waiporous for 10yrs. now with restrictions out there I figure I will need a new spot, so this would be a good chance to check it out. Couple of questions, just to clarify, I'm not a father, not a member, are these requirements. And if we did go, we are driving from Banff, so we would probably go out Saturday and camp, so how could we meet up with this group?

You don't need to be a father, you don't need to be a member. Come on along for the ride.

I am going to find a map that shows where the store is,It's still a month away, so that gives me some time. :D

The S10 should be very entertaining, we'd be towing it out of the parking lot.

I might be in, we'll see how the truck's running then. Should also have my locker in.

This sounds like one for me with my six month old stock TJ and a nice opportunity to attach some faces to names.  A female co-worker / passenger has expressed interest in riding along.  I just have no idea of the meeting point and this store and can't pin it down on the net.  Can someone help?  Is there a map I'm missing?

Thanks

McLean Creek is pretty easy to get to. Basically get on Hwy 22 south and head into Bragg Creek. At the 4-way stop, turn left. Follow the hwy until you come to a tee, turn right onto Hwy 66. Follow for about 5-10 min and you will see a sign for McLean Creek OHV Area, turn left, and drive for about 2 km and you will see the store.

I'll be there with a child or two, and my brother expressed interest as well.  He may even bring out his Toyota to test his new BFG ATs.

Toyota's are welcome. In fact pretty well everyone is welcome.

10 am Maclean store.
The usual CJA requirements.
Front and rear Tow points and good tires are essential, Loop end tow straps, not the straps with the metal hooks attached. CB's would be good.

Since it has been raining  for a while now I am thinking of changing the trail to Fisher West, then maybe Quirk ridge. They are harder packed and there will be less chance of getting stuck in the mud. This will be an easy run. Not like my newbie run last year

C'mon Ian the newbie run last year rocked. We only had one rollover doesn't that qualify as easy? Me and pops should be there and be sure we'll have funny hats.

June 18 -- Sunday -- Fathers Day Family Fun Goofy Hat Run

It is exactly what it says. Open run with a family attitude. Bring your wives, children, dads, anyone in your family, Wear a Goofy hat, bring your super soaker, frisbees etc.

My kids got into the spirit of things and helped build a special goofy jeep hat for this run. It's awesome and they spent some crafty time last Sunday with me helping to build it.

This should be a great day fun, wheeling and time with my kids.

Bad news for the single fellas.  The infamous single female co-worker got a better calling this morning at the office.  An old friend of her's whom I've met and we've jointly named "Sports Guy" calls her up with two tickets to some function in Edmonton Saturday night, something taking going on at a joint called Rexall Place.  Not clear on the details but my co-pilot bolted in a second leaving me alone.  It also means the drive down on my own and not knowing a single soul at the other end when I get there.

I'm a bald-azzed rookie of very limited experience with a great deal to learn and don't want to put anyone out, hold anyone up or make a nuisance of myself.  I'd still like to come along, watch and learn.

Co-worker chick promises to ride shotgun next time.

Red Dog. Yes, come along for the ride. You won't hold any one back, this will be a slow easy day, perfect for the beginner, Just a fun laid back day is the plan. We won't cover much trail and there will nothing hard or intimidating. And please feel free to make a nuisance of yourself, you'll fit right in

If you or anyone else gets lost or needs some help on the way down give me a call on my cellphone, 512 3073. It should be on by 8 sunday morning and you will probably be able to get me untill shortly before 10.Cell coverage is poor by the campground store.

Actually, the route planned is all firm bottom.  If you do it right you'll only have to clean the sidewalls.

It's a good intro to the Jeeeps climbing ability and a great view from the top.

We should be at the store just a bit before 10:00, looking forward to an "easy" run.  When you get my age, you don't look for trouble in the mud.

I wanted to take a moment to both thank people for their kindness and hospitality and also apologize for my absence on Sunday.  I had an unavoidable situation which delayed my departure about 90 minutes Sunday morning even though I'd allowed extra time.  In the end I felt there was no way I could make the departure time even at cop-bait speed on the way down - and once there, the trails and CJA route plans were a complete mystery.

I was so ticked I can't describe it.  It sounded absolutely perfect for me.  I went out Saturday and bought a new smaller cooler to avoid the chest sized one.  I had Juicy Jumbos for several people.  I chopped enough onion for a dozen people's dogs/smokies/burgers.  I had enough fresh buns for an army.  I had fresh batteries and an empty 1 gb memory card in the camera.  Even the weather (at least at this end) cooperated.

Thanks so much for the welcome and kindness.  I hope there's another open stocker run in the near future.
