Title: 33's or 35's?
Post by: WhiteOut on January 03, 2013, 08:22:36 AM
So I just sold my 33s and replaced them with 315/70r17 Duratracs, which kick arse in the winter it seems.

Now my dilema is whether or not to keep using the JK rims and get a set of mud tires in the same size (swap tires twice a year for winter and summer) or get a locker, a set of 15" beadlocks and a set of 33" MTRKs to go on them to run in the summer?

Am I really going to see a huge improvement offroad with a 35" tire over a 33"? Even if the 35" tire is not on a beadlock rim.

35" MTR-K Overall Diameter is 34.8
33" MTR-K Overall Diameter is 32.8

What is approximately 1" of additional clearance at the diff worth?

On beadlocks subtract another inch...  maybe more depending on sidewall flex?

Tootc runs 33's with his beadlocks and runs trails and very technical stuff just fine.  The beadlocks are going to the game changer regardless of what you run on tire size.   35's would look cooler for the poser shots.... :-)

Do the beadlocks.... no brainer.

Depends on what yout rear diff is. Turdy-five with alloys, 44a, hmm 33s. 8.8, 9 inch, dana 44 hmm 35s. Are you going to have a heavy tire and rim combo or light weight  tire and rim combo?

I'm breaking/wearing-out more parts with my 35's on beadlocks Fras. Keep in mind that the extra traction is hard on parts. I'm still doing the same trails (albeit easier) when I was on 33's.

You got money burning a hole in your pocket? New truck and possibly a house purchase ? Cha-ching !

35s look badass. BUT When i went to 35s The gearing just wasn't there. I miss 4.88s  on 33s.  ;)

So get some 5.13's! It's a Jeep....the answer is always "dump more money into it!"

stay on 33's and pick better lines!     j/k

just a thought but are you wanting trails to be easier?  or be able to hit bigger obstacles?

I am with Tubby and Ornamental on this one, stay on 33s.  33s will get you through most stuff and 35s add a lot for stress to parts
