if you do a spring over lift do you need to change your drive shaft or what is invalved in doing a spring over i jest got a 89 yj andit needs a lift gest woundering witch way to go chep

a spring over isnt cheap.
you do need a new driveshaft or lengthen yours.
i did a spring over on mine and put a SYE kit on the t-case and did a CV joint driveshaft. between the 2 you are looking at $800-900 plus labor to install the SYE unless you do it yourself(not a hard job.....)
then you basically need new spring perches, shock mounts.
If you are doing a SOA lift i assume you plan on running 33s or 35s. if so. your dana 35 rear end wont be happy with you....swap diff???? more $$$$
there is also the issue of steering setup. with the SOA you will run into problems with your draglink hitting your springs. So you need a drop pitman arm(one off a stock 94 ZJ gives you a few inches) also if you swap diffs you may swap the front and then try to go Hy-steer.....more money again...
it goes on and on. its not a difficult lift but its not cheaper really then getting a 4.5+" lift. The results in the end are better as you get more flex, especially if you stay with stock springs. However with stock springs you run into the problem of axle wrap warping your rear springs. So look into an anti-wrap bar.....
if you have any ?'s while doing it feel free to pm. i did mine on my 89 YJ 2 years ago. have a few pics if you want as well..
good luck either way.
