Title: Socket size
Post by: MOABICON on February 07, 2013, 09:58:46 AM
Anyone know what size socket fits the nut on the
front of a Dana 30 on a 03 TJ. So, I can remove the
axle when I blow a ujoint. Or when I break the axle
shaft.   Thanks   ;D

Also need a strong arm, long snipe and a fat man. And he has to jump on it.

Id take it apart in your garage where its comfy, break the unit bearings free and grease the outer before putting em back in the knuckle, wire brush everything and apply anti-sieze to the hub bolts and the stub shaft nut. Makes any trail repair that much easier. Don't forget to carry a couple extra cotter pins too.

If you break a u-joint and have run without an axle shaft, you still have to install the outer shaft and tighten in accordingly. Failure to do so will result in a good chance the unit bearing separating and causing lots of unpleasantness.
