Title: broke ignition
Post by: Bill on February 22, 2013, 11:19:14 AM
Between the key cylinder & the ignition switch is the steering column lock. The brittle die cast part on my '05TJ broke.

Chrysler says I have to buy that tiny part as an assembly which includes the steering column for $700.00. Even if I wanted to part with $700.00 Chrysler says there is a back order for 240 (70 in Canada & 170 in the US) with no plan to fill that back order.

Anyone else have this problem?

My first thought.... Pick n pull and grab on there

Second.... jb weld that piece back together...  It may last a bit longer.

Third.... push button start with a hidden kill switch

well found my answer !!

Modern Motors knew what I needed and ordered it in. I pick it up in an hour !!! It might be a jobber part but at $68.00 it solves the problem of starting the Jeep with a screwdriver.

Kudos to Modern Motors and thanks very much. They have sold me most of my Jeep parts over the years including a lift kit and seats for my YJ.
