I am a newb and would like to become a member of the club. I've read the FAQ and understand that it's a requirement to attend one or two meetings. At what point do I pay the fee and start my probationary period? I haven't attended any other club events yet (trail clean up etc). I've been building my XJ in what little spare time I have over the past two years and I'm finally close to getting this thing on the road/trail!

You don't actually pay the membership fees until you become a member.  Generally the way it would work is you come out to a meeting or 2 and introduce yourself.  Watch for open runs (or bug members to get in on members runs) and come out and wheel with us.  Then if you find you like us (and don't think we're elitist dicks ;) )  you just let us know you'd like to be a member and if none of the membership has any objections... you are in.  The do a trail project rule is to make sure that members are somewhat active... and can be relaxed a bit if we don't have any projects on the go.
