hey everyone. i may have just lucked out. i changed out my steering stabilizer shock on my 91 jeep yj to the skyjacker replacement. part 7009. and low and behold no more shakes. rides like a dream lol. perhaps almost a cadillac hahahaha. even hitting a bump now at 120 on deerfoot. no problems. of course i dont stay at that speed but still nice to feel a bit safer at higher speeds. thought i would share since others have similiar problems. maybe you too will get lucky.
I zip cut that tapered bolt off and drilled/ die grinded out the rest. threads on new tapered bolt were a bit damaged so i chased them with a 1/2" 20 die. got all bolted in and beauty.
Thanks Broken axle for the stabilizer!

I don't think you solved the issue. You've just found a better mask to cover it with.
-
Ditto ESI, best find what is really causing the issue !

solved it for now so i am happy. no more money going into the stock diffs lol
-
Its not solved, you masked it for now, you'll wear that new stabilizer out faster then all hell and you'll just have wasted even more money in the end. Listen to these guys they are right. If you really want to "solve" the problem, lose the stabilizer all together and start tracking down the shimmies, then replace it if you feel the need for it.
-
I can speak from experience when I say you've just found a band-aid fix.
Run it til it starts wobbling again though.
-
I hope you at least take the time to properly inspect your tires, steering and hubs - Your not the only one on the road ya know, despite what some people may think driving a modified rig comes with some responsibility, and spending the money to make it safe is one of those responsibilities. It is attitudes like that, that result in highly restrictive regulations. Just my 2 cents, a properly running rig should not be the result of "luck"
-
I have no steering stabilizer right now :o
-
I apologize if my last post was excessively harsh, its just that the possible repercussion of ignoring something like a hub thats coming apart is much more severe than that of something like an out of balance tire, if you know whats going on you can at least keep an eye on it.

No need to apologize. I feel the same way. I would not drive or let my wife drive the jeep or any other vehicle for that matter that I felt was unsafe. The shop checked out all my front end pieces everytime it goes in for oil or brakes etc and found no issues to be concerned with. So I replaced the steering stabilizer and it solved the problem. The only time it shook was the odd time I hit a bump hard enough when travelling around 100 km hr or so. So whether its temp fix or not, it worked jeep Is driving greAt so I will take it lol. Tires are toyos and have maybe 15000 k on em.

Your not listening to what's being said. If you put a bandaid over a cut, is the cut healed? No. Your Jeep ain't any safer just because it "feels" better.
-
This is just a suggestion and doesn't get done at many shops when getting mild service done. Have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth rapidly while you watch the steering components. Something will be worn and have some play in it. The new steering stabalizer will cover this up, and the wear will increase. When the stabalizer wears you might end up with a massive case of death wobble. If it was doing it around 100km before then it could be rather scary if it comes back around 100 with more play in the steering components. This is just a suggestion not meant to stir the pot.
-
I am listening but when the shop tells me the front end is ok. I believe them. They are a reputable place that I won't name to stir up things. So it is what it is. I feel safe driving is bottom line and having driven, wheeled mud bogged etc with jeep yjs Over past 15 years I am comfortable with them and respect them as both stock and modified vehicles.
So obviously this topic is going no where so maybe admin just lock it out and call her a day lol
-
There are a lot more shops that dont know their way around death wobble then there are those that do. Period.
With the right advice, experience, and know how, anyone can fix death wobble. Specially in a YJ.
But there's nothing you are ever going to do that will fix stupid.
So ya, might as well lock this one up. Like you, its obviously a write off.

Your all wrong!
You need two!

so i am a write off eh. ha. ok if it helps u sleep at night being a dickhead.
-
He isn't being a dick head you're being a moron.
Dingman

At least six people have came here and politely given you the exact same advice. To which you pretty much told everyone to go frack themselves.
So ya. You are written off. The next time you come here looking for tech I'll be the last guy to offer you advice.
I would imagine a few if the others are beginning to have the same sentiment.
If me not being willing to waste my time on some ignoranus that won't listen to sound advice from his peers makes me a dickhead.......that's fine by me.
Just don't come crying here when your piece crap starts falling apart again and your trusty shop hits you for 400 bucks to do the ten dollar repair that stop your death wobble.
frickin' idiot

I never once told anyone to frack off. Lol. I am swapping these Diffs out this summer and I am not spending any unnecessary money on em. The wobble wasnt happening often so maybe stuff is wearing out and on the fritz but as long as i can make it till summerti e or so that will be ok. So thanks for the advice but the stabilizer is doing its job for me for now. So call me an idiot moron whatever. Don't matter to me lol. I won't lose any sleep over it. So to those who gave me sound advice in the past thank you and wish ya the best.
