Wow... not making light of this, but accidents can happen even at the mall. Very sobering with our event coming up.
My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victim and of the driver. And let's all be safe out there.... whether it be on the road or on the trail.

with the limited information given, i feel the organizers should bear the responsibility for this! If you go to the drag strip, you can't hang out by the burnout box or by the start light tree, etc, just in case someone goes out of control. This wasn't a high speed event, and the jeep didn't go rolling down a hill into the crowd. on the contrary, this jeep slowly went up and flopped on it's side, raising the obvious question: WHY WERE PEOPLE SO CLOSE TO A VEHICLE ATTEMPTING A STUNT? why were people allowed to be so close that they were likely almost touching the Jeep? Unless the owner just decided to pull that off out of the blue without warning and without care, in which case, he can be off to jail without passing GO.

The Jeep lurched forward, it did not flop slowly on it's side. If you had looked at the video and the pictures, they show that spectators were not very close at all. The decedent was crushed when the orange JK struck another vehicle and rolled. There is a very good picture of the silver JK showing damage to the front bumper, hood and windshield where it was struck.
It is a tragic accident and when planning this type of event, you can never take every possible situation into account.

ahhhh, that makes more sense. thought he just started climbing on the other jeep's wheel and the just tipped...
That being said, I hope you have no intention of attending the show and shine this year.
why not?

You don't think they are all thinking about that? The people that organized this are all good, kind people. Those involved in this event now have to live with this event and you can bet this will be in the back of their minds at any future events.
We have already started discussing how we are going to address some safety concerns for our own event.

i take it back, i didn't really understand what actually happened, and it seemed just SOOOO crazy and unfortunate and yet so preventable that it fumed me off. glad i was wrong! condolences to all who happened to know those involved!

You're right you weren't there and are equally as quick to retract your comment after first blaming the organizers involved. I would certainly be very careful when organizing something to make sure you don't attend.
Watching the video clip and seeing the silver jeep backed onto an object almost looks like the silver jeep may have rolled back wards causing the driver to accidently hit the throttle while trying to dismount.
It's a shame that something like this ever happens. Lose of life while out having a great time is always tragic. How many people have lost their life just moving their rig a few feet and not thinking of the seat belt for a 5 second maneuver. Accidents suck and quite often no one can really be to blame.

This is not the time to be arguing or placing blame. I am just glad that me and my family are ok. And have nothing but the deepest sympathies to everyone involved.

why not?
Because in the six months that you've spent posting here, you have come across as arrogant, insensitive, hard-headed, and rash. You know little or nothing about off-roading, and are unwilling to listen to those around you who have earned knowledge through long experience.
That's why.

Please see off topic for tonight's vigil.
