Title: clutch issue
Post by: The wire on June 03, 2013, 04:54:45 PM
I was in the mud in my 2003 rubicon got it stuck in a mud hole. Everything was going fine I was winching it out and then no movement to the wheels you can put it in gear with out the clutch and when you push down on the clutch pedal it makes a grinding noise.I checked thetransfer case lunkage and it seems to be operating properly.Anyone have an idea of what this could be.

If you can put into gear while running without the clutch you've damaged the clutch! You'll have to pull the trans and replace what broke/wore out.

You might be able to resurect it at the car wash. There is mud inside. There are two vents one on top? The other on the side ? Stick the wand in there when it is running and push the clutch in and out. Clutch will slip when still wet but will dry out. Resurected a clutch at the car wash before.

I think it is demon on abjk site makes and sells a clutch snorkel kit for the newer 6 speed tranny. Basically plugs up those big vent holes. Couple different variations depending on year.
