The CJA will be hosting a Jeep Stocker run out at McLean Creek on June 10th. This is open to anyone that owns a Jeep and is wanting to learn some off-road skills at the hands of the CJA, I know sounds scary. YJs, CJs, TJs, Libertys, Cherokees, Grand Cherokees are all welcome, this is completely open. If you have a stock Jeep or any Jeep for that matter and want to try some off-roading this is the run for you and your family. This is not limited to stock vehicles, this is open to any and all Jeeps, just the trail will be geared for stock Jeeps.
Minimum Vehcile Requirement:
1. Jeep in good mechanical condition
2. Front tow hooks
3. CB (I do have a couple extra handhelds is someone does not have one)
4. Willingness to have fun
Recommended Vehicle Requirements: (not required, but nice to have)
1. Rear tow point
2. Tow strap with NO metal hooks (perferably nice and clean so I can throw it in the mud :D :D )
The trail planned will have a nice mix of rocks, hills, mud, scenery, possibly some winching or other demostrations at lunch.
Meeting Time and Place: 9 am @ McLean Creek Store
Note: This will be an Official CJA run so waivers will have to be signed.
Hope to see everyone on the trails

Too bad its not the next weekend. I'm on call :(

I'd like to go too! First chance to try my jeep out and tour with the CJA.
Since I'm a newbie, a few simple questions:
- I dont' have a CB but I do have a couple of Motorola radios, would this work?
- should I plan on this being an all day event?
- what should I bring along - lunch and pops, mud clothes, extra gas, duct tape to get my jeep home, etc?
Never been to Maclean Creek. If there is anyone who I could follow out on Sat morning, that would be appreciated. I live near Marda Loop, so send me a PM. If not I'll find it on a map.

1. I would like everyone on the same radio band, so you can borrow one of my CBs.
2. Always plan for an all day trip because you never know what might happen. However, hopefully we will be back in the city around the dinner hour.
3. Definitely lots of food and drinks, mud clothes yes, and ALWAYS duct tape. As for the gas, as long as you fill up in the morning you will be fine. Always us trail guides will have a wide variety of tools and sorts so you don't really have to worry too much. Nothing duct tape and a big freaking hammer can't fix :D
McLean Creek is pretty easy to get to. Basically get on Hwy 22 south and head into Bragg Creek. At the 4-way stop, turn left. Follow the hwy until you come to a tee, turn right onto Hwy 66. Follow for about 5-10 min and you will see a sign for McLean Creek OHV Area, turn left, and drive for about 2 km and you will see the store.
Here is a link for a map to McLean Creek - http://www.aurs.org/Images/map-toMcLean.jpg
Hope that helps and if you need anything else let me know

I'm looking forward to this run. No care that it is a noob run either, they often bring out the best people.

My wife and I will try and be there. How long from Red Deer? So we can meet at the store at the proper time.
88 XJ 3" skyjacker lift on Rubicon wheels and Goodyear Rubber. CB and some skills (I hope). Sat is my 41st b-day. Why not spend it with a bunch of great Jeepers I don't know? Sounds good to me.

I would say 2.5hr's from red deer city limits to be safe. Unless you really move on the highway.

I will probably be out as well. Missed the guys last saturday so i'll try to be early. Can anyone tell me where to buy a new CB antenna. I lost mine last weekend on the trail somewhere. Oh and if anyone found a 5' black with orange tip antenna last weekend let me know if you want to give it back to me
Hey Flathead; if you want to meet on the south side of calgary in shawnessy let me know.

Jeepless,
BYpass the city at Ardrie, go west to #22 and south to bragg creek. Thats the fastest way. It souldn't take you much more than 2 hours if you go that way.
Josh
-
Mudhawg,
I might have an empty seat depending on wether I take my son with me or not. I'll let you know by friday. Cool with you?
Josh
-
ya thats cool man
-
Hmmm...I may bring the ZJ for her maiden voyage. Just gotta get some tow hooks on the front.
-
Rubi Josh - thanks for the help, but I live a stone's throw from Glenmore Trail, so I was just going to get on it going west then get on the Hwy 8 to Bragg Creek.
Joel

Rubicon Josh go to the Roaking truckstop theres a CB guy there if not go accross the road to esso they also have a wide selection of antena's
-
Thanks Mudhawg!!
I'll go grab one tomorrow. Any suggestions for keeping the damn thing on? That was the second one I've lost. It has a quick connect that is spring loaded and has to be pushed down and given half a turn. I was thinking about putting a threaded end on, but I like that I can take it off easily if need be.

I had the quick release one and lost it too. Just keep a wrench in the Jeep. That's what I do. The other problem with the QR system, is that anyone can take it easily.
Not sure of what area you're in, but you can also go to the Blackfoot truckstop (by Lou's autobody) or the Husky truckstop on barlow tr. and 32nd Ave. (kiddie corner to Shaw Cable in the NE).
Good luck.
-
Well it looks like we are going to have a pretty good turn out tomorrow
-
Looks like I won't be able to make it. I'll see tomorrow morning, but don't wait around for me. If I'm going to be there, I'll be early.
-
Hey guys, I'll be there tomorrow morning.... Been pretty busy lately so I haven't posted till tonight. I've been out on quite a few runs with Kevman (who may or may not come along), but gonna take my jeep this time.
edit: Well, turns out I had plans for dinner tomorrow so i'm out.
-

Hey Mudhawg,
Sorry dude. Had a bunch of family stuff to take care of today. I've got 1 seat open still if you want it. It will be me, my son, a co-worker and you if you decide to come. Sorry if that means you get the back seat, but at least it's a day at McLean wheelin'.
Call me by 7:30am if you want me to meet you. 403-804-7720

My email is [email protected]
Oh and also if any one is ever interested in going out but they haven't organized a trip yet, let me know. I have a pretty open schedule. I'm almost always up for a bit of an adventure and usually come out to McLean at least one day a week.

I want to say "Thank You" to BlackYJ and Featherfoot. You were an incredible team  . I also want to say "Thank You" to all of the participants, you were a great group of people and I really enjoyed getting to know you and had a great time wheeling. See you on the trails again sometime. Thanks, Doug
-
i would also like to say thank you to the trail leaders BlackYJ and Featherfoot... It was a wonderful day to go explore a paradise like Maclean Creek, saw some great new terrain and met some new faces. It was uneventful trips in terms of breakage and such... which is always good. Granted after the offical run ended and JonnyC and myself went exploring and tried to avoid the ruts created by trucks on 44's on Fisher West.... my driver side U joint started to cry in pain and continued to whimper till I got back on the road.... hopefully shouldn't be to big of a pain in the  to change. Granted i think they are the orginal ones from 88, so time for the pentrating oil. Hope to see you all on the trails again... next weekend.
For all those on the run today... pm your addy and I will pass on pics/video once the cam is downloaded...
-
I had a great day yesterday! What a way to get initiated into Jeepin'!! Thanks to trail leaders BlackYJ and Featherfoot, and thanks to trail "teacher" SwampRat. I learned a lot, especially what a stock Rubi can do. I'll definitely be out again.
I also have a few pics available. If you have any ones of me, please send me a PM and I'll get you my address.

I agree it was a great time. Thanks to everyone that came out and enjoyed themselves. I have some pictures and when I get them off my camera I will pass them around.
Next time we can get into some more fun  stuff, but only if Bob will let me drive his vehicle
And just for the record, Bob said he enjoyed my company. I never thought those words would be spoke from his mouth.

I couldn't possibly have said that.....no way.....absolutley no.....
That's just the crazed talk of an euphoric kid who's just ridden in a real Jeep!
