Title: Full Exhaust System on '13 JK Recommendations?
Post by: tzettler on July 04, 2013, 01:01:52 AM
Hey guys I'm thinking of getting a full exhaust system for my '13 JK, ideally for sound and the minor performance boost...  I'm looking at intake, headers, and full cat-back system... anyone have any recommendations for the most guttural, throaty sounding system available?  I'm looking to spend maybe $1500-2000 in total...  thanks for the input!

**Also, is there any other modifications I should look at while going this far, or to prevent any damage/wear on other parts due to these mods?  Thanks!

i thought the exhuast manifold was part of the head.  If it were my truck, I would throw on a nice CAI and a flowmaster muffler.  Wouldn't cost much either

No typical header on this engine, the "exhaust manifold" is part of the cylinder head. What you can get is a cat back system to give you a better sound and some performance. Be warned that you dont have a V8 so dont expect V8sound, flowmaster, magnaflow, dynamax, mbrp, and most well know exhaust brands have systems for your jeep. You can also replace the exhaust pipe on the drivers side to remove the loop and essentially move the "Y" pipe back so any suspension mods down the road won't hit the exhaust.
Aftermarket intakes and filters are available from all the major brand names too. A good tuner is another option too. Some of them can tune your tire size to your speedo, check codes, adjust throttle sensitivity (needed on any jk IMHO), and tune engine for higher octane fuel.
All of these mods should fit around your price range.

Check out flo~pro. They are local and have lifetime warranty. Bunch of us in calgary have em and we all love the sound.

4"   17"   23"   2 ½"   2 ½"   STRAIGHT   4415XX

This is the model were using. You can install it nicely along the straight section below the driver, delete the big guy in the back all together(im going to use the space for a 2nd gastank). I had a custom tail pipe made. Did all the work myself for a cool 120$

I bought an AEV ProCal when I got my 33s, gonna have to check what it is all capable of.  And thanks for all the info guys, I like the sounds of the Flo-Pro system cost wise, especially no big beast at the back, although I just saw a few videos of the Metal Mulisha Gibson exhaust system, and it sounds pretty mean... I don't want to invest in something too soon, I guess I'll just listen to different systems on youtube or something and go from there.

I have an exhaust fettish. ;)
Honestly. YouTube the crap out of any exhaust you may want. It's something you're gonna live with for a long time. I personally have a flowmaster 40 and do wish I had one step quieter (now that I have a kid) flowmaster 50. I like the old school sound of a chamber style muffler. A little rasp in it, and it sounds possessed. I LOVE my exhaust. The flopro is a nice unit, as I believe jks have a bit of a space issue. I've heard jade monkeys and its nice. I'd probably just go with a flopro and a cai. And you shouldn't even come to the 500$ mark and use the rest on rcvs or lift or tires etc etc etc.
good luck can't wait to hear it

Great!!! Anyone have a video available or willing to meet up to show off the Flo~Pro setup?  Can't seem to find even one video of it, though lots of everything else!

***Also, anyone with a flo~pro recommend a glass pack or the twister instead?  I want loud and throaty, just not the point where I'll pick up a fine high revvin' lol

I was turned away from the twister, he said it was specifically for a no back pressure racing motor. Super loud. Same with the glasspack, just really loud, doesnt last

Hey JadeMonkey, so I went to Crowfoot Brake and Muffler yesterday, spoke with Brandon, mentioned the club... Left today with a slightly different setup than yours, but incredibly satisfied!!!  I ended up going with a 14" MX500 Flo~Pro muffler, with dual offset, chopped off the resonator, and am going with two 45º angled cut black powder tips... installed welded by them for a good price given the time it took!!! Sounds great, going to get a video up soon to better advertise the Flo~Pro name as it is hard to find vids online...  love doing things on my own, but I haven't gotten to pipe bending and welding yet lol these guys at Crowfoot Brake & Muffler though are great!!! Check 'em out, and I'll have you guys a vid for the sound soon!!!
