On my 4L. I get that it's meant to keep you from overtightening it. But the teeth wear and suddenly one day you can't unscrew it either and have to pry off the top and unscrew the plug with a pipe wrench. Is there a solid replacement to be found i.e. one that doesn't have the stupid ratchet?

Yep. I got mine at Canadian Tire.

Cool, thanks - I'll give them a try. I'd already spoken to Auto Value and they told me they only had the ratcheting version.

Someone else has probably already done this, but I was too annoyed to go shop for one and fixed mine instead. Drilled a 13/64" hole through each of the knob's lobes, and a 5/64" hole through both the latch in the knob that holds the plug and the plug itself. Then I put a 1/2" #4 wood screw through each one. Solid as a rock.
