Title: Upgrading Plugs, Wires, Distibutor on JK?

Hey, so I've a brand new JK, only 7000km, and thought I'd upgrade some smaller things while I save up to waterproof and lift it... would it be worthwhile to spend a couple hundred or so on new plugs wires etc, for the mild mpg and 'performance increase', or should I just wait til I start having issues with said parts?

In my opinion, no don't bother. if you want to spend a couple bucks to do some minor upgrades so you can still wheel it while you are gathering cash for a good lift, maybe go with some diff Armour, or some off road gear so you can still hit the trail and will still be very useful when you get your lift and get into some heavier wheeling.

But hey that's just my opinion.

Throttle body spacer, high performance plugs, wires, CAI, cat-back exhaust, premium fuel tunes...you can easily spend $2500 on "little" upgrades for your engine. How much performance will you actually see out of those upgrades? 10 HP?

If you shop around, that same $2500 will get you front and rear bumpers, a winch, a skid plate for your evap canister, rock rails, a CB, some recovery gear, and you'll still have money left over for gas. Or it'll get you 33's, sway bar disconnects, some wheel spacers, and a set of flat fenders so that you have room to run those new 33's....and once again, money left over for gas.

Which set of mods sounds like it'll get you further down the trail? Then again, I'm assuming that using your rig off-road is what you're looking to do. I may be wrong.

You aren't going to get any increase in performance outta what you're asking about. You have a distributerless ign system. There for you have a coil pack. No jumping arc from rotor to cap. It's already crazy stout. Changing plugs... Your plugs are still shiny at 7000 k. You don't need to bother with any of this stuff for a very long time. Save up the 100-200 bucks and get something you'll be proud of. If you need to spend some money for PERFORMANCE than get a good programmer. You might actually get some seat of the pants gains. Instead of just a placebo effect. Also the best part of a programmer is the little extras you get with it.

Sounds good guys, what I was sorta thinking, just didn't know! Guess I'll make my small upgrades more off-road related while I save for a quality full lift kit.  Thanks!  This forum rocks.

I see in your sig line that you're already running 33's. As long as you have disconnects and the room inside your fenders to really flex, the stock suspension on a JK will work quite well for you off road (as long as it's a 2 door). I think that armor (good metal bumpers, rock rails, evap canister skid, diff covers) will do more for you on the trail than a lift kit at this point. If you do want to look at a lift kit, maybe look at the Currie long travel leveling kit. It will work well with your 33's, and keep your center of gravity low.
