Title: Better TJ Windshield..??
Post by: scott slade on September 01, 2013, 10:57:49 AM
Just got back from a trip to Alaska. The windshield I got from Speedy seemed to be the weakest I have ever had. You sneeze to hard and it would crack.  The final blow was a rock hit that sent glass onto our laps.  I know we go through windshields on a yearly basis, but has anyone found a "brand" that seems to stand up a bit more than others..??     :o

I remember a while ago. There was a thread on pirate or jeep forum, about something similar. And the general consensus was ppg was the best quality.

I've picked up some almost golf ball size rocks on the deer foot in the summer and have been pretty lucky. I've been running my window for 4 years and this is the first season I should have actually changed it, 99 percent of the rocks just chip a small piece of glass, but no cracks until this year, I think it was a dealer install, but I'm not sure what brand they used,

Maybe the combination of cold? My friend cracked his window one time warming up his car in -40, no rocks needed

Well, other than going with a Polyshield, as TJ owners we are stuck with keeping the windshield industry alive....  at least we still get great gas mileage...!!!  ha, ha  ;D

My stock *original* windshield on my 04 held up with no cracks until about 4-5 months ago when my hood flipped up and smashed it.

I have worked at a bodyshop for many years. Our glass shop will cut a windshield out of plain safty glass. Seems thicker then a factory windshield and holds up real good. Think they are cheaper too.

I have a buddy that manages the Master Glass location down by Chinook.  I don't know what his prices are exactly but if you go down, talk to Joe and tell him Dan sent you.
