Title: Thanksgiving run 19-Oct
Post by: fug on October 08, 2013, 08:55:18 AM
This will be an open run.  Requirements will be:
- tow points front and rear
- 31" tires and up (in good shape... prefer something a bit more aggressive than street tires)
- CB Radio (or in a pinch FRS)

Leaning towards McLean but am open to Waiparous if people want to go there and maybe eat lunch at the lake.  We had a great trail meal on last years thanksgiving run but since our resident trail chef is preoccupied these days... I am thinking the club will provide some more mundane eats (burgers/dogs?) and maybe we'll try a hobo stew (everyone brings a can of something or other with the label peeled off ... and it all goes into the pot).

Who's in?  and what are your thoughts on the food suggestions?

I would like to come, I can bring a mini bbq, some hotdogs, and some chips. And some drinks if needed.

At the lake ?  Hmm hobo stew. Will bring big pot and cook table. Every one bring a can of vegtables or soup or pasta or whatever. No sobitage. Rip the label off at home and bring it. Did this with lck the past summer. Awesome.

I'd go.  I meet the requirements, except I drive a tracker instead of a jeep, is that a sin?  I can bring anything lacking.  I have lots of chairs, camp table, mini bbq, etc.

So... going to Waiparous for 19-Oct.  Meet at Smitty's at 8am.  Head out to the trail at 9am or so.  Bring along a can of something with the label peeled off to throw into a "hobo stew".  CJA will provide some burgers/dogs and sodas.

Since this is an open run you can driver your Tracker or Land Cruiser or what have you... just be prepared to take some good natured abuse.

In order to get a rough idea of how much to bring lets see if we can get a list of who's in and how many people are riding with you.

So far:

Fug - 2
OnyxGrizzly - ?
Morerpmfred - 3
plaerzen - 2
Wsquared - 2
Fleetline - ?
Hps4evr - 3
Buki - 3
Vinman - 1

Andy you're going to bring a big pot/camp stove for the hobo stew?

I'll handle grabbing burgers/dogs/pop and the condiments.

Might need a couple bbq's so if you want to bring one out post up.

Also if another member wants to lead this parade ... I can run tailgunner... or we can let me lead and go in endless circles ;)

Myself plus one.

I'll lead, tailgun, whatever. I will warn you that if you let me navigate, we are likely to head towards the nearest source of mesquite smoke - I've been spending a lot of time in Texas.

Put me down for 2.  I don't know for sure who's coming yet, but I've invited a friend who'll probably come.  I'll bring a BBQ and some bowls / eating tools.  Where's the Smitty's?  The smitty's in cochrane?  And in case I don't make it there in time, what CB channel should I key in when I get to waiporous to find you guys?

What's peoples feelings about the lake for lunch? or the Scenic view spot Andy has suggested?

Confirm with Andy on this but we can meet him at the lake then head to the scenic view spot place. It's on the map. Either way the trails should be good.

Don't worry about HAWKS, they will be looking for the van (with the "Free Candy" sign) I used to cruise the school zones. I abandoned it long ago. :o

Just bought a bunch of hotdogs hamburgers chips pop etc... enough to feed 25 or so.  Hope no one was planning to eat healthy.  I got bowls and utensils for the hobo stew as well.  If someone brings along a bbq or 2 we should be golden.

Andy lets meet at the lake at noonish and decide if we want to cook there or head over to the view point you mentioned.

Well. That was hella fun. Even though we didn't make the falls. Stupid electric fan. I still can't believe the amount of mud in wiaporous. Got home without a hitch. Kept under 100 the entire way. Even was still able to make it to uhaul early. Thank you Robin/CJA for the lunch. Had a blast.

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves.  It was good to get out and away from work for a bit.  Glad to hear you had fun Buki... between attack of my killer runt dog, getting showed up by a tracker on 31" all terrains and your fan conking out on you... I figured you might have been soured on the whole experience.   8) ;D

If anyone has any pics/video of my ZJ on three wheels and could send them to me I would appreciate it greatly (email is my user name at telus.net or pm for my cell if you want to send them via MMS).

We had a blat out there.  Turns out though I may have burned out my clutch through this weekend + the past 2.  Going to go see if I can adjust the cable at all to get some more throw, as right now I can't even engage gears from neutral while it's running :p
