Can you guys tell me the pros and cons for these axles. Ford HP Dana 44 and matched 9" from a 1979 f150.
-
The cast diamonds on the 44.
It is a serious weak point
You can't weld to them and the tube doesn't go all the way through
This is the most through dana 44 page there is

Try and find a 44 from a 3/4 ton
The 9" is good and strong but a low pinion may cause drive shaft issues

I was planning on getting some 2.75 x. 500" Dom and replacing the tubes and trussing it. To solve the cast issue. I'm concerned about the 297 joints behind a 5.9.

I have the same joints with the 3.9 Cummins.
I estimate torque of that engine around 400 ft/lb's
I've only spit out 1 or 2 joints :o

Think I will go a different way. Found some AAM axles I will use.
