Title: Shop charge repair? Rear main and rear axle seal...
Post by: RACKMAN on February 08, 2014, 01:06:44 AM
Looking at a jeep for a friend that needs a rear main engine seal and oil pan gasket replaced and a passenger side rear axle seal replaced. It's a 4.0L  TJ with a dana 44 rear axle. What would be the total average hours a shop would charge for these two repairs? thanks.

I would just give a couple shops a call and they will give you a quote, they will have all the labor and part costs set already and just type it in the computer.

Did you try pulling the axle and re-installing to see if you get that seal to re-seat. Works sometimes.

All in all its about 6 hours work plus parts. Id say most shops would be at least 5-600$. I know when you do the rear seal you might as well do the bearing at the same time. More work to save it then what its worth.
