The Calgary Jeep Association is pleased to announce the 7th annual Off-Road 101 Course
This is a one day, family friendly course that is open to anyone that will introduce participants to the basic skills that are necessary during an Off-Road adventure, as well as safe and environmentally friendly practices while on the trail.
Rough outline of the day:
The course will take place at the Mclean Creek off highway land use area. We will be meeting at the Mclean Creek store from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. At 9am we'll start with introduction to off-roading instruction, along with various beginner obstacles to get you acquainted with your jeeps capabilities. Around noon we'll have a short lunch break (you’re responsible to bring your own lunch as well as addition food and drinks the rest of the day). Then we'll head out for a trail ride with CJA members providing instruction and support throughout the way. Please note that this is an off-roading activity and there is always the possibility that damage and scratches can occur to any vehicle. The trail guides will do their best to prevent / minimize any potential damage to the vehicles, but the potential is always there.
The number of registrants will be limited to 30

**edit** <- i asked the date maybe i should read better LOL. My heep has no rear tow points but it does have an axle lol :P otherwise i meet everything. Although i have done the 101 before I think it will be a good way to introduce the wife to off roading and try to get her out with me more often and well its still wheeling no matter what run it is lol. :)

Still lots of room folks to get involved with this event. Spread the word!
-
super interested as i missed last years due to a broken tranny.
on avg, how long are we out on trails?
-
All day thing. Dink around in the gravel pit til noon, then head out on a trail ride. Usually get back to the store around 4ish. That is depending on how many times you get stuck, or stop..... Or take a wrong turn.

Hello,

Can I assume the McLean Creek Store is the same as the McLean Creek Campers Centre on Google Maps? Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I've never been.

That's close enough. The store has a large paved area 1 km off the highway

Hey!
My neighbour wants to do the 101 so I'm gonna let him drive my jeep. Please put me down as attending.
Cheers!

I'm glad you guys had fun! The weather turned out to be pretty good. It was a great group, trail was fun and no nasty surprises.

I did not know what my GC was capable of, well I do now!! Thanks to all the CJA members for showing us the way. A brilliant heart racing day and a wonderful group to be out with and to see how all the different models behave. If any one has pics of me could you please send them or post them. Im not sure how this web site works yet. Hope I am doing the right thing here??

WOW!
That was a great day!
Very big thanks to SpecialK, and all the other CJA members for setting this up and helping out.
The day was a lot of fun - and it was cool to meet a bunch of other enthusiast who were curious about what their Jeep can do.
I was very impressed by the capabilities of the entire Jeep platform - especially the Grand Cherokee (extra kudos to you Craig (ie The Crazy Cherokee Guy))
But, as someone said: it's not just the Jeep, it's the driver too. You could have a totally modded-up rig, but if you don't know how to drive it, it's not going anywhere.
So again, very big thanks to everyone for all the coaching, tricks tips and advice.
An awesome day, and a great learning experience.
Here's a couple pics from the staging area - forgot to take the muddy after shot :-[
