Need to replace my rear wheel bearings on my 05 LJ Dana 44. As usual, Mopar prices are ridiculous so what's everyone's opinion of the SKF brand of bearings and seals? Thanks.

Skf are rhe only unit bearings I would use. Bowness auto always have them in stock on the shelf.

Absolutely...Buy SKF when possible!! You will not regret it. I was doing unit bearings about every 6 months, SKF it been over 2 years. Timken I believe is OEM which are very good too!

not sure, but they say "made in USA" on the bearings along with. "Link-Belt"

SKF is definitely the brand to go with, make sure it sais Made In Poland, that's top quality right there.

Timken a are oem. Stan stocks them with seal sets. SKF would be fine. Or KOYO.
All the big brands are pretty much equal. Just don't do auto value specials

you can get anywhere from 6 - 10 months out of the AV specials depending on how big the tires are and how much you drive it. you will be replacing them often. warranty on those is a year if you do run em; and keep your recipt for warranty.
yes Billy, I run em ;) and replace every year cause they crap the bed often.

So you are replacing bearing yearly on an axle you've never ran? hmmmm
I think, like the others, you are confused with unit bearings versus rear wheel bearings.
I agree with your assessment on front bearings. Just keep the receipt and change out frequently from AV>
Rear 44 wheel bearings is not the same thing. They are labor intensive to change, and the cost difference between chinese crap and north american is not enough to warrant using the lower grade stuff.
Like I siad. Stan stocks timken stuff at a reasonable price. Gear center can get stuff fast. Theirs are usually SKF or KOYO. Either of which is fine.
Stan has extra retaining collars. Its good to have a spare incase one goes bad. I have several at the house as well if you end up needing one.
We can push them on at my place if you want. Just give me a heads up. Ron has good press blocks designed specifically for those bearings.

i believe the SKF ones are the premiums at AV right? i've run them in both 8.8s i've had. no issue. i'd asume quality won't change between a 44 and 8.8.

Hey Rackman - SKF have been leaders in bearings for heavy industry - probably one of the best you can get and their reputation is on their product - could have just come across and asked me. Jamberg
