i don't know why i waited so long to do this. i look back at all the work i did with a stupid propane heater and next to no light.
now have garage wired for 220a, a 21k BTU heater which keeps her fairly toasty, and full lighting makes it so bright in there i barely need a treble light under the jeep. my christmas gift to me!

Trust me and paint the walls, the drywall just keeps getting more and more yellow every year. I painted my walls and it made a huge difference in how the light is reflected.
-
Nice bro! It makes a world of a difference to have good lighting and warmth!

ok i'm in.
so what should i be painting the walls with? what kind of paint? and what colour?
-
White and gloss! Easy wipedowns
-
Looking good! Don't get things too organized or your wife will want to park in there too, haha. I want to get drywall up in mine but that'll be a project for next year since I added the NG line and heater this month.
-
Insulated the garage door too?
-
yep. garage door is now insulated to keep the heat in.
paint it white? nice and bright?
will keep you updated. might be my new years eve plan
-
I painted mine semi-gloss white and would do it again. It's a good compromise of wipe-ability and hide the crappy taping/sanding job. Gloss will definitely clean up easier but will show every imperfection in the finish (if that type of thing bothers you at all, it does me).
I just went to the Depot and asked for a good durable paint, can't remember what they gave me.
-
Yep. Semi-gloss, slightly off-white. Use exterior paint so it really holds up.
-
Posters from the strip club are really glossy too, you probably have a few of those kicking around eh?
;)
-
Joey FTW!!! !

halfway home boys. Fraser and i painted half the garage yesterday; used white like you said Jonas.
its 100% better now. hopefully get the other side done tonight and tomorrow. then its one to fix shelving and make it nice and super clean. going to be a brand new garage when i'm done with it which is nice.
-
Gloss white will brighten things up. Stripper posters and Riders flags should make it feel like home
-
Post up some pix after your finished

Right on man! Let me now if you need any lumber or OSB for shelving or a bench...I can acquire you some. :)

well pics aren't the greatest but she's done. all painted up. two coats. nothing fancy or crazy. but man is it bright in there. i still have to do shelving even though its not needed it will be in the future haha.
overall cost:
heater 200$
wire 220a 150$
lighting 175$
paint and shelving 250$
additional insulation for door, gap filler etc. 100$
so overall not bad. best mod i've done to date..... and its good because the clutch just gave out on the YJ, so at least i have a warm place to fix it!
-
Wow! Cleanest I've ever seen it. Now you need a dead gutted zj in there.
-
Looks good Johnny, you gotta like that.
-
there is a garbage pile in the corner still, but it will go out soon; just to cold to open the garage don't want to let the heat out LOL.
thanks boys. it is definitely nice to work in there now!
-
What did you use for lights? Cost? The ones in my garage are dying and need replacing.
-
just the cheap ones at home depot. they take a T8 bulb. i got the daytime light bulbs. they put out like 6500 lumens or something. light fixtures were 25$ a piece, bulbs 10$
-
Looks good...nice to see before and after paint pics....looks much brighter. It's always nice to find nuts and bolts you drop...then going for a easter egg hunt....
-
very nice. what did you use for the garage doors? is it that bubble stuff from homedepot? and is it actually working good? I was planning on using that stuff.
-
just the basic 1" insulation you buy at home depot in 8x4' sheets. cut it up, then used teh spray foam to fill in all the gaps i can see in the door. in teh metal, between the insulation etc. its not as good as a real insulated door and looks kind of ugly. but gets the job done
-
That looks awesome buddy, super clean! I look forward to the added comfort next time I visit.
