Ordered a new set of front unit bearings for my xj. Just curious if I should change out the 3 bolts on either side or not. The stealership wants $13/ bolt.
Jeep has 300k on it and I'm half way into my old man emu lift.
I usually like changing out the hardware when doing things like this, but $80 for 6 bolts ...
-
Are the bolts rusted?
If not, leave em. I've had those 12'point head bolts go through multiple hub changes and they're fine. Anti-sieze etc. is a good idea.
If you need spares, I have some.
-
I usually just wire wheel the threads and throw some anti seize on them and haven't had any problems except for broken shafts destroying the head.
Pnp is a good option if you need spares though

On a whim I ordered a set from 4wd parts. With the pick up at store option it was just over $35 for all 6.
I really like new bits.
It would have been fine, I'm sure of it, but I figured what the heck.

Only if it's shiny. Shiny is my favorite colour.

Even better... its SPARKLY!! ;D

Can you hang on to those old ones for me? I get the odd stripped one here and can use some spares. Save me the trip to pick an pull.

I can give you a bunch Billy. How many do you want?
-
Just a handfull to have around for ones that come in with the heads rusted off...lol
-
No prob billy. They are yours, I'll even give you a couple beers when you come get them. Probably will have the bearings out next weekend, they should arrive mid next week.
I also bought new 36mm axle nuts, came 5 to a pack and included the lock nuts. Need any of those for spares?
