Hey everybody,
I decided I should probably stop being lazy and start prepping the jeep for this season so I'm not panicking the last weekend of March, as usual haha.
One of the big reoccurring issues I've been trying to solve is taurus fans dying shortly after getting submerged in mud.
I burn at least one up every year, so it's getting to be a pain.
Any recommendations? Obviously outside of telling me to stop pretending my jeep is a submarine :D
It's a LM7 swapped yj and unfortunately there isn't room for a mechanical fan.

Stock Mechanical fan,
I had the same problem, got sick of it and went back to mechanical could not be happier. Worst part is the electric Taurus fan would work *most* of the time when it started its death spiral... and then quietly decide to be a pos...leading my jeep to more than a few unexpected boil over situations...
Mechanical fans Work every time all the time!

Weird. I'm ten years on the same Taurus fan and play submarine every time I go out.
-
Wow, I wish i could get 10 years out of one haha, do you always shut the fan off when entering deep water/hitting shallow water at speed?
Maybe I just have really bad luck with junkyard fans?

Has anyone ever tried spraying their taurus (or other electrical) fan with that NeverWet stuff?
I've had the same problem with my first taurus fan, and I'll see if NeverWet makes a difference with the next one, as it sure worked wonders for keeping my radiator mud-free!

:o I know what I'm doing next time I'm in the garage.
Can you buy that stuff by the gallon? I'll just do the whole jeep with it hahaha
-
lol the whole jeep... hmmmmm i might invest in some of that stuff too.
and if anybody needs a spare fan.. i got one that im getting rid of.

I'm tempted to even do the windows with it, but it looks like it leaves a bit of a hazy residue, so maybe the windshield isn't a good idea... but I'd do almost everything else! I've sprayed my starters and alternators with it and they work fine after. It's handy stuff! The coating doesn't last forever though.
-
where did you go get yours? and how much was it about to do an alternator
-
I'm seriously contemplating doing my mastercraft seats and crow harnesses with them after I spend a whole day cleaning them haha

It's sold at Home Depot, maybe other places too but I'm not sure.
It's $20 for 2 cans (its a 2-part process, spray first with can 1, then can 2 after 20 mins)

I'm running two 97+ xj Efans. Jeep runs below 100 all day on the trail.

Isn't the Taurus fan the cheap alternative?? Buy a flex-a-lite or a better rad/fan combo.

....Buy a flex-a-lite or a better rad/fan combo.
IME, FAL fans are complete junk. They definitely do die the first time they see water.

Ive been running one on my LS swapped TJ for a few years with no issues. I haven't even wired in a switch, I just utilize the Flex-a-lite controller box, though I'be been meaning to wiring in an off/on...
I promise that see's more abuse than a typical jeep.

I dunno know, I will stick with the mechanical fan. There isn't enough deep water crossings around here to worry about it. Also avoid the deep mud. The slight HP gain isn't worth the hassle. Just my 2 cents.

50% off pick n pull sale starting wednesday. Im just going to grab 2-3 an hopefully luck out and get one that will last haha.

I haven't been to PnP in many months, but I do remember last time I went, all the taurus fans in the yard had been picked already (which I'd never encountered previously)... seems like the 'secret' is out, and its not just Jeep guys taking them! Or, it was just a one-off.

This.
Buy a new one. Jobber one at Napa is about $160.

I think they get stripped fairly often from the Tauruses. Many 90's Volvos use the same fan (but it's removable from the shroud, unlike the Taurus) and also have a handy self-contained relay pack.

I do have one. I'll sell for 30 bucks. I think that's fair. Until Sunday. Then reg 50 Dallas.
