I've heard it's absolutely beautiful up there and wanted to gauge interest, see if anyone else wanted to make a run.
It is 3 hours from Calgary though so it will make for a pretty long day.
Note I still haven't found another Jeep so I will have my quad.
We could aim for Nov 5th, or next year...
Route I'm thinking H8, H4, H5, H3, H8
Depending on time we could do H8, H4, H5, H6, H7, H6, H5, H3, H8

Here's google maps for the Hummingbird Staging area. If you flip to satellite view you can see how deep into the mountains you actually get.

Would be nice to see this area.
-
I’m in.
-
Would be good, but do you know if its quad only? The photo of the quad crossing the bridge makes me think it could be a tight trail.
-
There's nothing in the map that would indicate that the area is quads/sxs/bikes only.

There may be bridges on areas that aren't open all yeah but it is a risk I can't mitigate based on what I know.

I am interested.

That area is for horses, quads and sleds. No on-highway vehicles allowed on any trails. Before it was a PLUZ, different story.
The Green trails are Horse trails used for tourist rides. Good for hiking. You'd never fit a Jeep on them.
The Yellow, quad trails are only for quads, tight and skeg holes, but that's only what I've seen before staging and H3 like 7 years ago.
There are many trails between the trunk road and rocky along the South and North Ram River and even a couple that go to the NSR. Everything that's not in a PLUZ is fair game.
-
There's nothing in the brochure about limits to what an ohv is. It's a long drive to be blue balled though.
AEP has done a fantastic job of making things as clear as mud.
Probably best to scout it with the quads and determine if it's feasible this winter/next year...

This makes the most sense right now. This has been an excellent idea! Thanks Rob.

Quads and whatnot are allowed on some trails but unfortunately Jeeps aren't allowed on anything in the whole Upper Clearwater Ram PLUZ. Click on the Motorized tab in that link for clarification.
Isn't there a lot of trails up in that area that are outside of the PLUZs?
-
Typical, You research the area you want to go, check the documentation for that area, start planning a trip there only to find out in another un mentioned document it indicates restrictions that you had no idea about...
Thanks all for the interest and help.

What about Coal Branch? There's Ruby Falls and what looks like some great other legal trails.

Note how there is a lot of trail outside of the PLUZ boundaries. I've been wanting to check out what's up there for a couple years now.

Would love to do Ruby Falls/Hinton Dunes area. Definitely Spring/Summer '23 for that.
