Title: Diff Covers/Guards
Post by: BlackYJ on August 11, 2006, 12:54:03 PM
After the jamboree at Apex this year, I was thinking about getting a diff guard or heavy-duty diff cover for my front diff (D30) and I was wondering if anyone had some good experiences or insight for me.  I know there are warn guards, poison spider rock rings, rockcrawler diff covers, etc.  I will like something that does not make changing the oil tough but still provides a good amount of protection

Get the Warn, I have them front and rear.
About $125.00 each and more than strong enough for our wheeling environment.

I have a Warn D.G. on my front D30 axle and so far I love it.

It's easy to check the level of the oil & to change it also....

It gets a little clouged with mud but it's fairly easy to clean with a high pressure hose...

cheers

I do warn front, and dynatrac rear for the higher fill hole due pinion angle.

The warn is simple and good for around here.

Or you can get fancy like Crazy Davey did. Weld the bottom half of two more stock covers to your full stock cover, and then tap and fit the bottom of it with a plug. Drainable d30 cover :D  :D

Well sounds like everyone likes the Warn, but now I am concerned about mud.  Do they really fill up with a lot of mud?  Anyone using the poison spider rock rings?

I run the stock cover up front and I use a front cover on the rear. The rears are really thin and I dented one easily. I believe this is enough (knock on wood, cross my fingers). Otherwise I'd get warn or any of the heavy cast covers, whatever's cheaper.
