So I've got a 79 CJ7 with a 360 AMC, and I just put on some 35's (was running 32's), and now she seems a bit under powered. I believe I'm currently running 3.54 or 3.73 gearing. I'm thinking of going to 4.10, by doing this I should get my bottom end back, right? Just wondering how much top end I'll lose, or will my gas mileage go down even lower? Anything else I have to take into consideration, like will there be problems cause I already have a locker in the rear? I've never had an axle apart, is this something that should be left to a proffesional?

oh and for axles, I believe its a D35 in the front, and AMC20 Quadra-Trac in the back.

D30 front, the D35 is a rear axle in jeeps
I was running 33s, 4.10s and 4 banger and my gas mileage sucked. I have recently swapped in a 4.0L with the same setup and my gas mileage has basically returned to normal. I found I have power all the way through the range. I don't think you will have a problem
If you are running 3.54s, i think the 4.10s would be good, but if you are running 3.73s, just go to 4.56s.

are you sure it's not a model 20 rear end?

Ramtuff, he said he had a D35 in the front, and I was stating it will be a D30. He mentioned he had an AMC 20 in the back

Sounds good, I'll have to check and see if i've got 3.54s or 3.73s. If I were to go to 4.10s, what would my top end be like, would I notice a huge difference on the highway?

You definately ned to confirm that ratio. Most of the ones I've seen are 3.54's, but you never know.
If yours are 354's, you need to change carriers to go to 4.10's.
Meaning more bucks.
