anyone know what the proper torque for a pinion nut for a dana 35, 456 gears is? i set mine at 150lbs, but when i inspected it, the crush sleeve wasnt even.. well.. crushed....

There is not a specified value on crush sleeve pinions.
You torque until you have proper pre load on the pinion. To measue the preolaod on the pinionbearings you take reading of the rolling resistance with an inch pound dial or bea type torque wrench.
You will crank, and crank and feel no preload at all until that sleeve starts to crush. Once the sleeve starts to crush, the preload will increase VERY quickly.
You want 15-25 inch pounds of preload on new bearings, and about 10-15 on used.
Be carefull, it only takes about 1/16 of a turn to get about 5-10 inch pounds once the sleeve starts crushing. As in 1 rachet click or so.
Anyways. Thats how you properly set up a crush sleeve pinion.

Also, when you start to get preload, give the pinion a good smack with a deadblow hammer. This will help to seat the bearings, and you will notice the preload may lighten up a bit afterwards. Continue from there.
If you over shoot to much, the crush sleeve is done, so be carefull.
If you over shoot a small amount you are better to leave then try and re set it on the same crush sleeve.
