How can I tell what the rear diff is with this van 1987 ford Econoline.
Thanks

Take a pic and post it, Someone will be able to tell you.
On a 8.8'' the back is removed for servicing, like on the d44 and d35. On the ford 9'' the centre pumpkin containing the gears etc. is removed from the front leaving the housing on the vehicle
But you could google these axles and see if the pics look like the one in the van.

you could also tell by the bolt pattern and the lug size on the axle. if it's 12 ( ithink) then it's a 60.

It took me some time on googling it. I lost all my great websites that told me what diffs are in what vehicles. I think its the F8.8 with drums and 28 spline.
Is there a great difference in strength between the 31 spline and 28 spline F8.8?
Thanks
