Title: really looking for some advice
Post by: wrenchead99 on October 21, 2006, 07:57:51 PM
hey everybody.  I have a 98 xj that I was considring putting a 2 inch lift into (one of those so-called budget boost kits) and was wondering what some thoughts were on these kits.  the kit I'm looking at contains coil spring spacers, lift shakles and blocks, as well as shock extensions.  wondring if these kits are any good?

What is your reasoning to install the lift?  I am not a fun of lift block, I think they are dangerous.  Lots of people run the coil springs spacers with no problems and lots of people run lift shackles with no problems.

A one inch block is ok on a XJ, past that you get axle wrap which quickly starts to degrade the stock springs and will lead them to breaking. Being that the kit includes shackles the block is probably only 1".

How big of a tire do you want to run and will you be wheeling it? A 2" lift would be good for offroading with 30"s or street driving 31" but 31" offroad will rub.

the kit I'm looing at comes with 1/2  inch mini blocks with 1 1/2 inch shackles for the rear with spring spacers for the front.   I want to put a slight lift in to run a slightly larger tire, probably a 30, but since this unit will likely only see pavement for now, I may go 31's.  Later plans include a 4.5 inch lift with 33's and trimmed fenders.  Oh yeah, the main reason I want a lift is that an unlifted jeep is simply a cry for help :D
